9mm SD ammo

My department issues 124 grain +P Gold Dot in 9mm, 180 grain HST in 40, and 230 grain +P HST in 45.

We've had a good number of shootings with those rounds in my 13 years. Those rounds consistently give good ed expansion and penetration. Those rounds also have a very good and earned reputation nationwide. They just flat out work. They were also designed using gel testing as the parameters.

To answer the OPs question, I'd go with the Speer Gold Dot or the Federal HST. Those two probably cover the majority of LE contacts and both have a very good reputation from real world shootings. We've had really good results with the 124 +P Gold Dot.

But in reality pretty much any of the big name premium hollow points are going to work well. Truthfully I wouldn't feel undergunned with a cheap hollow point either but I think the premium stuff is worth the extra money.

So, just what are you insinuating? That a this guy is lying?

Here in the year 2020, thanks to the internet, people are still regurgitating nonsense about Glock kabooms, Beretta 92 locking blocks, and Kimber's long-since corrected issues they had on some pistols.

If Federal's ammo was junk, and did not perform as claimed, don't you think word would have gotten out by now?

Actually... I'm right with you on the Kimber thing. Granted, I never had a Kimber with problems, but a friend of mine did (actually a recent production one) and Kimber fixed it right up and everything is wonderful.

What am I insinuating? I'm not insinuating anything... you didn't list the source of your quote, so I don't know if it's a valid comment or not. I don't think the comment is out of line, I would be surprised if it was, and LE working with the manufacturers is in everyone's best interest... but as YOU just stated, 'thanks to the internet' as you put it... you can cut and paste anything anyone may or may not have said and claim it as documentation. I didn't say Federal ammo is junk... YOU said that. READ MY COMMENTS.

Right under the quote I posted, I put a link to the article it came from.

In the academic world, that's what is known as a "citation."

Sorry, I missed that. If you read my statements, I still said it was very likely valid... and you have reinforced that. In the Real World that's also known as the same thing.

Truthfully, I don't understand your disagreement with my original statement. Aside from how I phrased things, there are a number of posters here that said, basically, the same thing I did.
