Here's what should have been here...

AppBrookie's Intended post:
I 'm pretty much a revolver guy looking for a semi-auto. Not enough ammo available in my area to price shop. I know that the stopping power of the 40 is better, but I want something that I can afford to practice with. What kind of prices are guys paying for 40cal and 9mm?

Not sure why it did not post my message earlier:

My local Wal*Mart sells Blazer brass for 12.47$ for .40 and 8.97$ for 9mm. Is that what you want to know?

When Wal-mart has it in I have been geting Blazer Brass 9mm for $8.97 a box and Blazer Brass 40 for $12.47 a box. Both prices are for 50 round boxes.

Rockwell we must have answered at the same time.

From my observation, .40 runs about 25% more than 9mm, and .45 runs about 50% more than 9mm.

i.e. 9mm ~ $10, .40 ~ $12.50, .45 ACP ~ $15 per 100 rounds of cheap FMJ practice ammo (Blazer Brass or Winchester WB from Wally World)

Interesting, my wife insists that differnt locations have different prices. Apparently not.

I wouldn't get caught up with the stopping power issue between these two calibers. The 9mm has a century of evidence behind it and lower prices. Companies like MasterCast can get you range ammo at the best prices, but you'll need to retain your brass and exchange it for reloading.
