me and my buddys always have this disussion and i would like to know what some of yalls oppion's are. the .45 against the 9 mm more so the 1911 against a berretta 92 or 96 for self defense porpuses which do you think would be better i always go with the american .45

Do a search over in the auto section for more than you can read in a month.
As stated above, both have advantages and disadvantages.

If there were a clear winner, there would be no need for the endless discussions about it.

They're both good.

I own one pistol in each caliber and carry them interchangebly.

I don't feel outgunned with either.

I prefer to shoot .45 acp for its pleasant "push", low-pressure recoil. However, I don't have much discretionary income (or spare time for reloading), so, since I believe that shot placement is more important than the (IMHO) small difference in effectiveness, and since I can practice twice as much for the same amount of money, I use the 9mm. Loaded with modern JHPs of 124-147 grains, it is a very effective round... for an auto-loading handgun.

If I can afford it someday, I might switch to .45. It's just more fun, and every little bit of extra power helps.

Having worked in support of the Navy's marine mammal program, I can tell you that our "self-defense porpoises" are unarmed and pack neither .45s or 9mms ... but, I did ask once, and one of the dolphins told me he favored his trusty Wilson CQB ...

HAHA....Love it. :D

On a serious note, I carry a Glock .45 off duty routinely, but whenever I am expecting a little hair on a situation I routinely will grab a Sig 228 with 15 rounders....and a 12ga of course.

On duty I have no choice, but it ain't bad either...12ga and Sig 229 .40.

Then there is the MP5.......MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM(homer) ..........MP5

45 LC, but I feel quite comfotable with my G23 40 SW and wouldn't feel too anemic with my G19.
I like big bullets. Considering all the info available today, nines should be just fine, but what can I say? A bigger bullet makes a bigger hole, unless my math is off.

9 vs. 45. Holy cow! It's sorta like a 2x4 vs. a baseball bat. For self defense both a 9mm or 45 can kill you. Heck, you can die from a 22. It's all about shot placement. We can't tell which is 'best'. What do you feel comfortable shooting. Personally, I like a 9mm. You'd be better off arguing with your buddies whether a blonde is sexier than a brunette. :neener:

Oh no you didn't...

I'll admit it, I've accidentally touched off firestorm arguments (you guys remember my condition 2 1911 thread?) like this. While you may not be aware of it, any sort of "what caliber is best" thread is likely to explode at any moment.

The correct answer to your question is whatever you shoot well and feel comfortable using for defense. If you can hit a dime at half a mile with your .45, but you couldn't hit a barn if you were standing inside with the 92... you get where I'm going with this.

Remember, a .22 between the eyes is far superior to a .44 magnum in the glove box.

OH25
Good God Man! How much more rediculous could a post be? I just lost aaaallll respect for you!
It is common knowledge, *easily* verifiable, that blondes have incapacitated *many* more men than brunettes.
Have mercy... :neener:

IMHO...redheads are either drop dead sexy or call the pound ugly.

As for latin women though.........oh yeah! :D

BTW...you haven't seen the .50 BMG of women until you have a latin woman mad....oooyyyaaa!

Redhead. I've had mine for over a year and she still has that "new girlfriend" smell.

To get plenty of opinions on this topic all you need to do is search the forum. It's one of the most widely discussed topics.

To answer your question, the best round is the one I hit you with. Test both. Choose what you like and don't rely so much on the opinions of a gang of internet blowhards....educated opinions they may be, we'll just confuse you even more.

Brunette, blonde, brunette, blonde. How about a conversion kit? Get a brunette who bleaches her hair? Best of both worlds.

"New girlfriend" smell. Hah! I believe that I'll plagarise...um...'borrow' that one..
