Many people own the old east communist block pistols that use the 9x18 round. They are popular because of their quality and low cost. But the ammo? Most of that stuff comes from about three places in Russia but what a spread! Copper washed, zinc, no-stick poly and paint and lacquer. All steel cased. Some brass cased as well, but expensive. Hollow points, and many ball configurations for the bullets. What do you use in what? Have you found anything that will not work when something else will? Is the non-Russian brass ammo worth it? Was the cheap Norinco better? A complicated subject.

The standard 9x18 is a 95 grain FMJ and most of the surplus guns are designed for this bullet.

The above chart has some very good info on many different types of ammo.

When I carried a 9x18 I prefered the PS Grand 95 FMJ but it is no longer imported. I also had some of the excellent Corbon JHP (no longer made)

I would probably use the Silver bear HP or Corbon Powr ball as my carry ammo if I still packed a Mak.

I typically use Sellier & Bellot ammo, but not just for my CZ-82. I try to buy S&B whenever I can for all 14 of my handgun calibers and even in .303 for my Enfield. I love the stuff. Inexpensive, clean burning, and high quality. Excellent ammo.

Actually the sarge, there are a number less than what you listed
PPU (privi) and S&B actually make most it not all the US brand metrics.

Silver Bear HP
Order in bulk, only stock the one

Otherwise, I always have an eye out for 9x18 at gunshows, but not much has been worth bothering with when I have an ammo can full of SBHP and even cheaper Brown Bear (I won't bother next time I order, though, when the BB is gone it is getting replaced with SB)

Silver Bear -- FMJ for practice, JHP for carry, although the price difference is pretty small. Buy in bulk from AIM or J&G.

Silver / Brown Bear- Never had a problem with either.

I really have been meaning to try out Buffalo Bore's offerings, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

for range ammo, whatever is cheap. these guns were designed for cheap steel cased crap, and eat it like a pitbull eats a porkchop.

for defense, hornady, corbon, and buffalo bore make good stuff.

Silver Bear 94gr JHP is what I use for both target use and carry. It cuts paper well, is inexpensive and at the very least functions as a FMJ-FN.

My occasional carry P64 is utterly reliable with these and they're in the same price range as their FMJ stuff (about $1 more for a box of 50).

Order mine from Georgia Arms. (Can't use Silver Bear, Wolf, etc. at my local indoor range.) The Georgia Arms ammo is first rate, and when I can, I buy in bulk.

Brown Bear and Silver Bear mostly.
They work great in all of my 9x18 chambered hand guns.
Cheap thrills when you buy in bulk online.
A little stinky for some folk's tastes, but I kind of like the smell. Keeps the mosquitoes at bay.

Mines loaded with Barnaul 95 gr JHP which is no longer imported. Shooots pretty good , too.
