Did anyone else notice the AK airsoft that was missing its pistol grip and part of the muzzle? That made me laugh.

While watching FOX News Shephard Smith said he that whether or not it's a "9mm Assault Rifle" that's what the police have called it, so to be fair it's not necessarily the media hyping it up the police themselves said that it was an "9mm assault rifle." .

Here is the deal, The media knows and understands full well how over hyped they are making it but they say "That's what the police have told us..." so they can get away with saying what ever they want.

sm said,

...just a group of kids being surprised and given a BB Gun, with a "whole carton of BBs too".

Omigawd! Thousands of rounds of ammunition!

The video I saw said that they had found 'some bb guns' and a 9mm handgun and a LIVE grenade!

The kid is defenitly a ****ing idiot, theres no question, he was plotting what americans go ape**** over, school shootings.

However, I agree the media is totaly hyping this up, they must figure that the majority of the audience are anti's, thus the style of reporting.

I saw the picture and immediately thought "I want that!" Then I realized they were cheezy airsoft crap instead of authentic cheezy soviet or chinese crap. So the kid didn't break any laws (I don't believe there is a law against TALKING about school shootings) and had one of the biggest collections of BBGuns I've ever seen. OK, so bust him on the grenades (which were probably bundles of Black Cats). They didn't even find 9mm ammo for the weapon of mass destruction. Besides, say he did go shoot up a school with his "arsenal" of "assault weapons." What's he gonna do with all that firepower, cause some nasty bruises? I would laugh at him and go kick his ass while he reloaded then drag him out to the cops by his ear.

I think this and the recent Ohio shooting are to cover up the LEO killing 6 kids in Wisconsin at a school dance. I say it's rather convenient, after this came out, all the news stopped talking about that, and now they got 1 school shooting done by a kid to talk about, and another kid that got arrested for 99.9% likely BS reasons. Those 2 things are much easier to talk about and blame and make silly little conclusions of than a cop shooting up a school. You cant blame gun control for that, you cant blame parents, you cant blame media, cant blame anyone but himself. But it also makes people doubt the integrity of their LEOs, and want to give more restrictions on LEOs.

Just a thought...

a 9mm carbine is more than up for the job of killing kids in school
and black powder grenades will work so he's toast
journos no and care less about guns

"Lol 9MM Assualt rifle Idiots the first one told her it was a pistol"

I saw the first report on MSNBC. First, she called it a 9mm semi-auto pistol. Then she called it a "9mm assault rifle", after a little hesitation. I think, when a reporter doesn't know what they are talking about regarding guns, they just start throwing out buzzwords that they know will provoke the desired emotional reaction. "Assault rifle" usually works.

They are quite shameless. Paul Helmke would be proud. :barf:

Anyone ever have one of those green and yellow Super-Soaker 50 Assault Rifles? Those were the days...

Did the mother forget she had a son or something? Maybe its just me but i couldn't hide a single airsoft gun without my parents knowing. Where is she and why isn't she getting slapped on the wrist for letting her son get a hold of the 9mm... whatever it is.

Uh... say what? Methinks thy tinfoil hat needs stretching. The circulation to thy brain seems to be constricted and meaningless babble is pouring from thy mouth.

With utter disgust and abhorance for the complete disregard for basic journalistic ethics, which no one follows in the first place but I still have to learn them in my journalism classes, I have to say...

THIS IS BRILLIANT PROPOGANDA!
-In one case "Weapon's Cache" in the headline with a low resolution picture that shows what appears to be a multitude of weapons which most people would refer to as "assault rifles." In the case of web-based news sources, they are well aware that readers typically only read the headline and introductory paragraph. As such they have been able to sensationalize the event to a majority of individuals, who now believe that all of the pictured guns are a real "assault rifles."

-Read the story on CNN and the writer glazes over the fact that these are nothing more than what I would consider "dangerous toys," no more dangerous than the Red Rider BB gun from "A Christmas Story."

-The actual gun that was recovered is not pictured because its appearance is not as threatening as the BB or airsoft guns in the picture, leading the more critical reader to assume that one of the pictured "assault rifles" is real.

This is textbook anti-gun propoganda propogated by both the police department and the national media. The anti-gun forces within the media are mastering the use of linguistic manipulation and selective imagery.

I knew something was wrong when I saw the bolt handles and ejection ports on some of the firearms, and there wasn't enough possible bolt travel to eject a .22lr. It was pretty iffy, some kid getting a folding stock M11, AND an MP5.

This morning on Fox, they were saying only "some bb guns", leaving one to believe that most were real firearms.

One of my local leftist nuze outlets reported the story, and I called them on it.

ME: "Did anyone actually look closely at those supposedly firearms?"

Loony Leftist Nuze Outlet; "Why?"

Me: "Because all of those 'eeeevil guns' pictured are actually 'Airsoft'..not really firearms."

LLNO: "WHAT ? ? ? ? "

Me: "Airsoft. Not real firearms. They use spring-compressed air to propel a 6MM diameter PLASTIC Pellet. BTW, a so-called "Assault Weapon" is a full-automatic weapon...Fires ammo until the trigger is released, or the magazine is empty. Does your station ACTUALLY perform any sort of fact-checking?"

LLNO: "Click!"

theyre talking about it right now on fox news, but keep failing to mention that all but one of these guns is a bb gun. hmmm....

EDIT: oooooh! now its a "HIGH POWERED assault rifle" and the grenades are airsoft grenades

Here's the link from the local press.

I'm not saying that it applies here - since the kid was on the verge of snapping from the pressures associated with being mentally abused by his peers day after day for years - but I'm against having kids play airsoft and paint ball for the obvious reason that it teaches kids that its OK TO SHOOT AT OTHER PEOPLE instead of proper safety, et cetera. I'd give them a .22 and teach him properly first and have him graduate to such things.

This mother = Sarah Brady

It looks as though they are going to try and charge the mother with making a straw purchase for buying her son the rifle.

If they do charge her with a "straw purchase", we should challenge the Brady Campaign to publicly stand behind this mother for the gun purchase she made for her son the same way they stood behind Sarah Brady when she did the exact same thing and bought her son a rifle.

The "grenades" are improvised bombs he was making using metal ball bearings and black powder. One had a fuse and was ready to go, and at least two more were partially finished. So no, they weren't traditional "grenades", but they sure as hell weren't airsoft or paintball toys either.
They weren't grenades at all. He could have improvised that with a pop can.

Well, here's the quote from the news article...

Michele Cossey bought her son a .22-caliber handgun, a .22-caliber rifle and a 9 mm semiautomatic rifle, authorities said......

Cossey, 46, of Plymouth Meeting, bought the rifle, which had a laser scope, at a gun show on Sept. 23 and provided police with a receipt, investigators said in court papers. The teenager said the two .22-caliber weapons were stored at a friend's house.

If that's the case then she's guilty as charged.

I buy my 12 year old son rifles and handguns all the time, but they are in MY safe and he has no direct control over the weapons unless I am with him.

If this woman bought these firearms and let her minor child have full custody and control of them, so far that they were not even kept at the home, then she's toast.

Sarah Brady, for all the horrible person she is, bought a gift for an ADULT son, perfectly legal thing to do.

The Police are getting worse about this

Remember the recent case in Brooklyn where they layed out an "arsenal" some kid had, mostly composed of airsoft guns?

The press and the police are destroying their credibility. Very dangerous for the country and civil life.

I have a particular interest in this: I've lived in Plymouth Meeting since 1979 and graduated from PWHS in 1986. Oh, and I had a much more impressive, real arsenal by the time I was 14.

Something stinks about this. The DA has stated that while he believes the kid is disturbed, no attack was imminent or even truly in the works. Yet, the mom was charged with several felonies: endangering the welfare of a child, unlawful transfer of firearms, and aiding the possession of a firearm by a minor. It's almost as if the kid got busted, they decided there wasn't really a threat, but now they have to charge somebody for something.

There are matters in the story that are perversely exaggerated, yet there are matters in the story that are frighteningly accurate. As seems to be the case so frequently, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Should we be concerned that the young man had these weapons? No, by no means, not even the rifle. The mother owned it, and he had no ammunition for it. Although, I do disagree with leaving it in the child's possession. If he had already completed hunter safety that might be different, or if he were an accomplished shootist. Re: any handguns, those MUST be stored with the adult.

Should we be concerned that he had "explosive devices"? To be certain. There is no doubt that injury could have resulted, to some undeterminable degree to those in the immediate vicinity if those devices were employed.

Should we be concerned that he had violent writings? Should we be concerned that he was recruiting? Yes, and yes. It appears clear that he had motive, intent and with the explosives, he had the means.

My greater concern is that the mother allowed LEOs to enter the home, and the child's room without a warrant. Their arrival should have been the first indication that she needed to say no, investigate and get the child talking with her.

I think what we have here is a situation where the parent was not violating her child's alleged "privacy" enough. I tell my daughter frequently that she has no rights to privacy until she turns 18. I will search her room and computer at any time I choose...period. More parents need to have recording devices on their child's telephone calls, recording software on their child's computer and a key and any lockable resource that their child possesses. Better that I should be the intrusive zealot than the police and prosecutor.

I'm still confused!

I'm reading and re-reading this and can't find where they kid did anything wrong! The mother bought a gun and it was in her house - so? The kid was "turned in" by some other kid - so? Maybe this other kid was just trying another bullying tactic. The DA says there was no attack emminent nor was there any planned - so? What'd they get him on - day dreaming? I think one of the other posters has it just right - they busted the family, realized they screwed up and now there's trumped up charges being thrown about.

I think this whole incident fails to pass the smell test. :cuss:
