"A 32 gun in his pocket for fun..."

My safe queen:
It sits collecting dust because:

1) It beats the crap put of my shooting hand. Yep, it does buck as much as a polymer pocket .380 ACP. :D
2) Can't hit the broad side of a barn with it. Yep, mine has the shallowest rifling of any gun I own. I can hit a B-27 sillouhette center of mass at 3 to 4 yards though. It is definitely a last ditch defense gun.
3) Kicks the magazine out on a regular basis. Mine only does that with the finger extension, it works well with the flush fit mag.
4) FTF at least once per 3-4 magazine loads. Hmmm, I don't have that problem, but at least it is a true double action with 2nd, 3rd, 4th strike capability. :D:D
5) Ammo is expensive and hard to find. In a local store, sure. On the internet, not so much. http://www.aimsurplus.com/catalog.aspx?groupid=28&name=.32+Auto
6) Slide does not lock open on last shot and it should not be dry fired since it may break the firing pin (according to owners manual). This requires the first cartridge in the magazine to be a snap cap reducing the capacity. Maybe so. I load up the whole magazine and don't worry about it. Mostly because the gun doesn't have an ejector and the last empty shell usually "holds" open the slide until you put in a new mag and rack it.

Worst gun I ever bought.
Not my worst, but far from my best. :D

Regarding C&L's Points

Picture shown above is a generic photo I found on the web, not a picture of one of our guns.

We bought ours in 2005 I think (wife and I bought a pair). I took mine out of action in 2006. Wife sold hers a few years ago.

We had chronic FTF (Fail To Fire) issues as well as various jams when we first got them. The more we shot them, the better they got. FTF's decreased dramatically but still not good enough for an operational defensive carry gun. I went on the forum over at NAA and found many other owners with the same general issues. The advice was to hang in there, keep shooting, they will smooth out.

We both just got tired of getting beat up. We put the finger support extension on the mags (like your pic), that's when we started getting mag ejections. I think the mag catch is not robust enough to manage the down-force of the little finger during recoil. We wanted to have a pinky rest to provide a bit more grasp for the recoil.

As far as hitting stuff, the microscopic sights the same color as the slide don't help with our old eyes. The "less than the length of your little finger" sight radius doesn't help either.

The lack of a slide lock is a real deal breaker for me. I do not like any firearm that cannot be placed in a visually obvious state of being disabled. When I hand a gun over to someone I do so with a locked-open slide, cylinder swung open on a DA revolver, bolt open on rifle, etc. Impossible to do that on the Guardian.

There are a few upsides to these little buggers. Once they become reliable, they are a very compact, easy to conceal, close quarters defensive side arm with enough wheaties to be effective. At times I drop mine into my pocket if I have to walk the 300 feet up to our mailbox if my Airweight is in the truck.

My wife and I have simply transitioned to guns much more comfortable, reliable, less expensive, more accurate and fun to shoot (S&W Airweights, Glock G19s, etc.).

Not sure if I will sell the Guardian but I won't be carrying it as a concealed weapon anymore.

Dan

Great thread title. When I snatched this at an estate sale my wife asks: "what do you want that for?" And I said I'd keep it in my pocket for fun... Took some splainin' and she still labeled me a dork. Women.... Go figure. I thought it was funny especially being al ol' school pimped out with the short barrel, bobbed hammer and cheesy nickel. Oh yeah - the pearl grips got yanked and paid for the pistol. Dontcha know, it had to have pearl grips?

What I really figure is to load up my own crimped snake shot.

Bergmen, I know it's a Guardian. I was just thinking out loud that it was made to compete with the earlier Seecamp, but apparently (by your comments), doesn't quite come up to the good reputation of the Seecamp .32.

Only have one, a Manurhin PP .32. Manurhin actually made all the Walther PP's after WWII until approximately 1985., no matter how they might be marked.

I've got to take a better picture of this thing.

Different strokes

My Seecamp/NAA Guardian experience was the opposite.

I've had two Seecamps and wouldn't swap my .32 Guardian for a large hatfull of Seecamps.

While I don't have pictures, I do have a Seecamp for dress up events and a P-32 for EDC. Nice old vintage pistols you folks are posting.tom.

Love the old .32's. Just won this one yesterday:

The postwar nickel is a bit scruffy (to put it nicely) but that kept the cost low. I'll probably refinish it over the winter.

Can't wait for it to arrive :D
