A .45 ACP kind of morning

OK, big hands, don't like Grock, not too wild about 1911s, want quality affordably....sir, please handle a CZ 97. Just pick it up and see how it feels - they are made for people with big hands. Also try the EAA Witness in 45, as it is also a convertable, but look at the CZ97 first. You might be very pleasantly surprised.

No worries - and happy to post it here. It is relevant as it was the reason for my anti-Glock prejudice early in this process.

Around 89 or 90 a friend owned a G17. We went out to the range with a box of reloads. The final round in the magazine blew-out at the bottom, rear of the casing. It looked exactly as if someone had taken a hacksaw and just cut the groove deep enough to make a 1/4 in. long opening. The experience was strikingly similar to holding a small firecracker in your hand until it goes off (Growing up in AZ we would do stupid things in Mexico). The consequence was that the magazine shot out and I got slight powder marks (not serious enough to call a burn) where the frame cut outs are located. The bullet went downrange and I don't recall where. I don't believe the Glock was otherwise impaired or damaged. As I recall, my friend got rid of it later in favor of a Beretta 92 a while later.

It was only a couple years ago that I learned enough about Glocks to understand that this was an issue for some of them, that they have a partially supported chamber, and that reloads are verboten. Mea culpa, but not maxima since it wasn't my pistol or ammo.

I am strongly considering a G30 for a number of reasons. It fits my hands well both in a proper two-hand grip and in a single hand grip. It offers concealability if I wish to carry it (my license arrived last week). Realistically it will reside in a gun vault bolted to my antique bedframe 99% of the time. I do not have any plans to reload as my annual round count is likely to be in the hundreds, not thousands. Of course, I will save the brass just in case. :) If you have any further questions I am happy to answer then, but that's what I can remember about the incident.
