Considered often to be the ugliest guns made, an old Mossberg 185 (IIRC) 20 ga. was the first gun I was lent to go hunting with as a teen. As was said, back in the day, they were almost as inexpensive as ubiquitous Harrington & Richardson single-shots, which didn't have the greatest reputation, but were nicer and repeaters, if slow ones. I bought a used later-model 20 ga. of my own and bought a new stock direct from Mossberg, restocked it, and it became my favorite small game hunting shotgun to this day. Eventually I bought a minty 12 ga. for the heck of it. Just as ugly, and just as cool. Did I lend one to my Mom during the Rodney King Riots?
Come to think of it, a buddy who was emulating me but didn't quite know any better, and wouldn't listen, bought a Marlin bolt-action Goose Gun as his first firearm. It was a 3" chambered fixed Full-choke on something like a three-foot barrel. It was useless for anything but a couple of geese here and there. Sure he never actually used it...
Anyone mention single-shot Enfields? The magazine-well is filled with wood and they take, what, a proprietary rimfire cartridge (?) to keep rebellious colonists who might get their hands on them from the local Bobbies from ever being able to use them...
