I have a new old 270 Browning A Bolt in 270 Winchester....anyone recommend a good round for deer hunting...this rifle has the BOSS.Would like a flat shooting, hard hitting fast cartridge.:banghead:

Pretty much any of the 130 grain factory rounds are going to work well in a 270 Win. for deer ... the challenge is to find the one that shoots best in "your" gun .... what shoots excellent in my .270 my or may not shoot worth a hoot in yours.

I can recommend Hornady SST 130 or 140 gr, Federal blue box or Vital Shok, and my favorite, Nosler Trophy Grade Accubond 130's.

Pretty much everybody makes good .270 ammo, and if you get a 130 grain softpoint that shoots 2" or so at 100 yards from your rifle, you can kill any deer you can see.

I have a couple of new old A-Bolts as well, though in different chamberings. They shoot any factory ammo I can feed them and quality reloads, too. A 130-135 grain bullet would be in the middle of the .270's bullet weight range, and probably a good choice.

I have a couple of A-Bolts with the Boss system. Once you decide on a load, you can actually gain some accuracy advantage by tuning the compensator for the load. Takes a bit of fiddling but once you figure it out, leave it alone and use the same loads. If you don't mind the price, Federal premium with the Barnes TSX bullet will do about anything a 270 can do and do it well. Winchester Supreme 130 grain bullets are good too. Another advantage to both is that they are environmentally friendly lead free ammo if you find yourself in an area that requires it. Your mileage may vary.

I agree with hueyville. If you handload try a Barnes TSX 130 over 53.0 grains of W760.
Sub moa in the 3 270's I own.

My A Bolt has shot well with every type and weight of factory ammo I've ever fed it. I've had it since the mid 90's so it's seen a lot of ammo.

If you want lower cost ammo buy Remington Core Lokt...it's inexpensive, accurate, and has great terminal performance.

You can go up in price from there if you decide you want to spend more.
