A Few Questions About the Saiga

I'm thinking about buying a Saiga in .223 or 7.62 and converting it. I know there are numerous threads, but when I search for saiga, I receive a million different threads.

Here are my questions.

1) Where is the best online retailer to order one of these as nowhere locally seems to carry them.

2) I have read that a certain version of them doesn't even require the making of a new trigger hole or nut for the pistol grip. Which version, if this is true, has this?

3) Where is the best place to purchase the parts for the conversion? (as in rear stock, pistol grip, trigger guard, and handguard, if that is even the correct term, and all of the other components for the conversion)

There are a lot of decent retailers. FBMG, Atlantic, Classic Arms, Gilbertsguns all come to mind.

Its a crap-shoot. I don't think you can really tell until you get inside.

Either way, its no big deal. There are some easy to use templates on Saiga Forums and if you have a dremel, you have a hole.

Any AK parts will do. I've bought from KVar, Tapco, DPH Arms, ect. I've even ordered parts from DSA-- who is more known for FAL work.

On my 308 conversion, I went with an ACE Skeleton stock. If you do that, make sure you get either an internal or external rear trunnion block.

Get your bullet guide and tools kit from Dinzag on the Saiga forums. Its going to be the easiest way, and he is a GREAT guy in terms of business and for what he has done for the Saiga community. And a genuinely nice guy.

if you can find one with the skeleton buttstock allready on it, then that is a big chunk of the work allready done. As for the rest, I cannot add any better, to the dude's post above mine.

It's not a crap shoot. The rifles are all set up.

The 12ga and 20ga shotguns need the pistol grip hole cut. I'm not sure about the .410 model.

Get your bullet guide and tools kit from Dinzag on the Saiga forums. Its going to be the easiest way, and he is a GREAT guy in terms of business and for what he has done for the Saiga community. And a genuinely nice guy.

Dinzag is the best, but a bullet guide is no longer necessary. Quite a lot of reports are out now stating the Master Molder / Surefire polymer brand of magazines do not require a bullet guide (this also gets you 3 US parts toward compliance).
