A good Gunbroker seller story

Back during the pandemic I got the urge for a stainless S&W .22/.32 kit gun. I bid low and high, losing out every time to some insanely high prices. There were winning bids on no box-no papers used guns well North of $1,200 in most cases. (Now they are back to under $850-ish, but I digress.) I put the idea out of my mind and bought a stainless Ruger 10/22 international and a blued 10” Mk IV for less than $750 shipped instead. (Thanks Buds!)

Still wanting a kit gun, I looked for months and in 2021 I finally found a very nice S&W Model 34, which is the blued version. It looked almost unfired and came with box and original receipt. Best of all it wasn’t stupid-bidded to the moon so I got it for a decent price.

I just got back from a 22-day trip down under and got the stack of mail from the mailman yesterday. In it was a priority mail envelope from someone I did not recognize. I opened it up, and in it was a very nice surprise.

Apparently the previous owner of the S&W had paid for a factory letter back in 2009. The letter wasn’t given to the Gunbroker seller (Sarah15 guns) with the gun when it was consigned so. It didn’t come with it when I bought it. The consigners apparently located the letter somewhere, got it to Sarah15 guns, who then went to the trouble of sending it to me in perfect shape over two years after I bought the gun.

These are the little things that give me faith in people out there, especially those in the gun industry who go the extra mile. :)

Stay safe.

Great story along with a beautiful Kit Gun and a factory letter; a big time WIN/WIN for you!
Ten or so years ago I went looking for a .22 revolver for my future wife as she never had a gun before and really wanted to go shooting with me. Went to the LGS and found an H&R Model 929 in very nice shape complete with the box and paperwork. The price was fair with the only drawback to it being the heavy DA trigger pull. I put it on layaway and the next time I came to make a payment my old buddy from high school was behind the counter. He said that knowing how much I liked vintage S&Ws he put a used Model 34 that had just come in on trade aside for me to look at.
Yep he really knew how to push my button as he showed me a like new in box Kit Gun! Everything about it was pristine (not even a turn line on the cylinder) and the bluing was so nice that I quickly cancelled the H&R on layaway and transferred the money to the S&W. Gave it to my future wife and later I added the Hogue Monogrip to give her a more comfortable grip on it.

Yep, a couple of sweet Kit Guns!

Very cool story! I wish I had a friend or two like that who kept a weather eye out for guns I might want!

Most Gunbroker sellers have been great for me but this one definitely deserves some recognition for getting that paperwork to you. Ive been burned a few times through the years but I just write their name down and never buy from them again. A bigger problem has been the post office. Never trust the Cleveland Hub. Ive been told its the worst in the nation and I believe it after the messes I have had LOL. I have no clue what kind of insanity goes on there.

I never have any reservations buying from FFls on Gunbroker. Often I ignore sellers with no reviews and incredible offers. Im pretty cautious though and tend to trust my instincts when something doesnt feel right.

I have had a few issues. I bought a gun or two that weren’t quite what they were advertised as (both from the Houston area, different businesses), I bought one from Virginia that was “NIB” yet arrived at my FFL filthy dirty from firing lots of rounds and with a cylinder that wouldn’t open, and one “top ten seller” business (who uses two seller names!) from Alabama who sold me 200 Starline .32 magnum cases that they didn’t have in stock. When I complained about the three-weeks-paid but no shipping yet issue, they tried to get me to pay them more to “rush.” It was far higher than Starline was selling them direct to customers for, so I got my $$ back with an CC dispute and a BBB complaint and bought from Starline. (Both seller names have lots of F ratings now.)

I have bought two guns from Sarah15 (maybe it’s three?) and they have always been first rate. Three or four other sellers have been the same. This little surprise was just a bit more IMHO.

Nice story!

I've bought a couple of guns from Sarah15 with good results as well. IIRC, they were the seller of a Browning Medalist that showed up with a super-nice, perfect-fitting, vintage George Lawrence wool-lined leather pistol rug of a quality level that I doubt one can even buy these days, and it wasn't even mentioned in the ad. I wouldn't take $100 for the rug.
