a good revolver for 300 - 450 $

What gun should I get in 357? How bout a taurus 605 or ruger lcr? Any other suggestions don't want to spend more than 450.

i'd take a windicator over a taurus. i would spend the extra 50 and get a ruger sp 101 or gp 100

I assume based on the guns you mentioned that you are looking for concealed carry.

I'd go with a used S&W J-frame.

Something like an old model 36.

Also a good contender if you want something a little bigger would be a used Ruger SP101

Used S&W Model 60. Taurus 605. Ruger SP101. I have no experience with the LCR, but I do not believe that a .357 was meant to be fired in guns that light. At least, not by me.

Good for what, exactly? For a woods gun, I'd say a new Ruger Blackhawk. For concealed carry, you'd likely be better off with a gently used SP-101 or a J-frame S&W.

If you want to buy new I don't think you will be able to buy a S&W or even a Ruger for the money you want to spend. I personally would stay away from Taurus and Rossi but the new Charger Arms revolvers are a very good buy IMO. Charter Arms was a great company but then they went through a few different owners. Now that the Ecker family is back at Charger Arms they are again making a quality product which are within your price range. The short .357 Magnum revolvers have a List Price of $365 but can be found for just over $300 so you will have money left over for ammo to practice.

I agree with the folks that went with the SP101. It's not light like most of the new S&Ws so it will be enjoyable to shoot, and you can pick them up brand new for 450

Does it have to be a 357, or would a 38 do? There are lots of colts on sale at www.summitgunbroker.com right now. Cool old pistols too. I have shot a good amount of them and liked the action on all of them. Under 300 bucks too.

If you are going new, and it has to be a 357, I would not buy a taurus or rossi. I know two people who own windicators. One is a total pos. The action is godawful. The whole gun is finished poorly and there is no such thing as lockup on it. The other one we handled before he bought it. It had a not so great trigger when purchased, but was tightly fitted. After about 200 dry fires and 100 rounds or so it smoothed out enough to be acceptable, and he can hit clays on the pistol berm at 25ft with it handily.

If you plan on shooting it a lot, you will shoot a windicator loose quickly, if you intend on shooting real 357 magnum loads. He has to tighen up the screws after every outing, but thats not what i meant by loose. His gun has just over 1000 full power 357 handloads out of it. It has a lot of endshake, and does not lock up tightly at all. It also fails the cylinder drag lock up test. But it still shoots good.

FWIW, I would not buy one without handling the exact gun I was paying for, and I would not shoot a steady diet of magnum loads through it either.

Go for the Ruger LCR 357. Shoot one cylinder of .357 once a week for a month and I'll take it off your hands for half price... With my luck you'll turn out to be a masochist so .....
