Hey there ,my 15 yr old son and i hunted a private block in Woodhill yesterday and had one of those magical father and son days, that are very special,hes been coming with me since he was knee high to a grasshopper and loves hunting / shooting sports as much as me.
Woodhill is a stronghold for Fallow deer and provided your in the right place at the right time provides some great sport.We hunted for about an hour before playing tag with a really nice stag with outstanding antler palmations but he didnt get to that size for nothing and the sly old fox kept putting a healthy ammount of scrub between us and a clear shot.
Whilst returning to the truck, we found more sign and tracked a young spiker back down the valley for about a mile,my son was the shooter and he took it down through some scrub at about 120 yds,anyone who says .223 is two light for Fallow deer obviously hasnt done it because this guy didnt go anywhere,dead on the spot,55grn hornady sst.The sun was out ,my son was beaming ear to ear and the venisons in the fridge......what a great day.....teach your kids to hunt and have the best hunting buddy you can get, cheers all

Another Kiwi

Gday Mate, It's good to see another kiwi on what seems to be mainly a US site. I only just found this site today (23/4) while looking for after market Ruger Stocks. I'm not too sure where Woodhill is but I'll take a wild stab that it's near Auckland. My closest fallow is the Blue Mts in the South Isl. Its good to hear you're boy's on the scoreboard, mine are a bit young for serious deer hunting but I take them out chasing rabbits or magpies as often as poss. If you know of any outfits either here or Aussie that sell ruger parts I'd be keen to here from you on this site. Cheers, Trev

Gidday Trev,good to catch another Kiwi on this site,seeing your a southern boy i suppose you have checked Ruger stocks out with gun city in Christchurch,they may have some laying around if customers have ordered synthetic stocks etc and changed them over i have a few ruger connections i will see what i can come up with,Furley importers the Auckland ruger agents may be able to help you.Being a ruger fan myself you might try one of the ruger forums they can be pretty helpful with info.
My boys 15 yrs now and hes as keen on the hunting /shooting thing as i am ,hes been on the scoreboard for a while now deer wise and its now a mission for me to get the point and take the shot ...lol....cheers mate.
