On the way to work a group of black men (aged approx. 23-27) in a brand new silver Lexus pulled up along side me and threatened to sodomize me.

I must admit that I was rather shaken after this encounter. It was a scary thing to have 5 people threaten to rape you and call you a "mother ######" for no good reason. What else might they do? I had no reason not believe them incapable of anything. And what kind of thugs drive around in a brand new luxury sedan in a run down area? Gee, probably dealers.

I did not say anything back to them. I backed up and refused to turn my back to them hoping they would drive off, which they did. I ended up standing in the middle of a big parking lot that was lit up with two visible security cameras on me until my connecting bus arrived. I watched everyone who came near me. It is not the first time I have encountered undesirable folk on this street, but this was the first time I ever had someone shake me up. It took me half an hour to relax.

I work for UPS in an airport and cannot carry (anything! :banghead:). I do not have a car and so I must take this bus. I remember what ran through my mind: The first thing was the use of force law. Then escape options, which were no good because they would run me down. Then a realization that if they stopped I'd be in a losing fight. Luckily they were just screwing with whitey. :(

I'm sure you know someone who drives to work. Perhaps you could ask one of them if you could leave your gun in their car(If legal), this is assuming you totally trust that person. Other than that there's not much you can do, other than save up for a car and start driving to work. As for escape, run for the nearest busy store(Starbucks would be a good one in the morning), unless you provoke them I don't think they'll do anything in front of a bunch of people.

What about a bicycle? In a city it's difficult for a car to catch a cyclist who knows the streets and back ways. Apart from random nogoodnicks in cars, the bus itself is a haven for criminals. People waiting for buses or getting off of them are routine targets.

This happened to a friend of mine by a group of 'Bloods' in L.A. He smiled, pretended he was deaf, started to mumble, and use make up sign language. They left him alone.

Are there lockers in the public area of the airport where you could lock your gun up while you work? CC is usually not prohibited before the metal detectors in the concourse...

If they were singing YMCA, they were just the Village People acting crazy again. No need to worry. (Just kidding-Chuck)

I think you will find that if you tell them:
"Its the best you ever had, you will never go back to women":what:
they will leave you alone.

Oh my God, that's genius. It reminds me of when a rather violent homeless person in Toronto asked me for money, I started speaking random Italian back to him. He looked at me funny and I muttered in broken English, "I'm sorry, I notta speak mucha English" smiled and walked away.

This is particularly scary when you think of the young white couple who were raped and murdered by a gang of young black men in january in Knoxville (I think) Tenn.

Watch your six!

Two words for ya - DUCT TAPE!
Seriously, working in an airport puts a real hurtin' on your SD options, especially when facing multiple young sodomizers.

Biker

Yep, and the DA decided not to file "Hate Crime" charges.:fire::fire:

There was a male on male serial rapist running around the Houston/ Beaumont area over the past year. This is nothing to play around with. If they threatened to rape you that is assault and should be reported to the police.

I think the locker in the airport is a great idea, if it is available. Glad you are ok.

Okay I realize this is easy to say afterwards, but you should have gotten a good description, the licence plate of the car, and reported it to the police so that a paper trail was started on this group. That way if they do something down the line there is a "history" to their actions.

I read a story awhile back about a woman who was stopped at a red light when a car full of A-holes pulled up next to her and started making suggestive comments. She used one of the large pepper sprays they use for bear defense to fill their entire car with OC.
I wonder if that might work for you.

This is GREAT!! I'm going to get one now just to put in my car! I had an incident like this once when I was only 16. I was drove a very large pickup truck, and I was tooling down the high way when a car with three young "thug" looking individuals pulled up next to me in a "ghetto" looking vehicle. I looked down in time to see a gun pointing my direction. Instinctively I ducked and veered my large truck toward thier car. It forced them off the road and I kept driving.
Now I know how to handle the situation differently (i.e call PD etc...)
I think the poster handled it very well. Anything you say might aggravate the group even more. What they are trying to do is prove to thier friends they are "tough". Often, if you don't say anything back, they will act tough and keep right on going, however is you say something this might give them reason to believe that you pose a threat to thier "manhood" and they may try and create a problem.

This is another great reason why Gun Control / Weapon Control laws are doing more harm than good.
BGs know the law, and can use to their advantage against the law abiding.

Pretty sure this Lexus would not try that stunt on a Police Parking lot...

Jurisdictions vary, plus other restrictions a business/campus may impose.

-Contact Police and inform them of incident.
You are not the only one taking a bus, and not the only one restricted of means to defend yourself on this "campus".
Pretty sure the Police would be interested in folks "afraid for themselves" on this campus.
Patrols, especially during shift changes and bus schedules could be arranged.
Marked and/or unmarked units.

-Get with a UC LEO if can, or someone with Street Smarts, to assist in some tips, methods and training.
Something simple like a drug store cane, AA Maglight, Bic ink pen... can be implemented.

-Work on changing policy of course, then too remember if one is thinking, and thinking out the box, they are never unarmed.

There was never a chance of such charges being filed. Around here, those kind of laws tend to be applied only one way.

You ought to be able to carry it in the regular entrance and put it in a locker. I know you are an employee and probably use a seperate entrance and I have no idea what type of security you go through to get to your job in the airport.

As a visitor:

I had to pick up my cousin 2 weeks ago from the airport in Louisville. It was last minute and I wasn't sure what the laws were so I left my gun in the car to go meet him at the gate/checkpoint. I figured the airport would be totally off limits to carry, better safe than sorry. I don't recall seeing any signs at the entrances, only at the checkpoint. Anyway the next day I went to the airports website and Homeland Security site and found out that you can carry all the way up to the security checkpoint. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/civil_sanctions_air_travel.shtm
I have to pick my mother up from yourairport in a couple weeks around midnight and it's nice to know i don't have to leave it in my car. That parking garage at Louisville Airport doesn't seem the safest place to be at midnight carrying luggage IMO.

vis-à-vis, that does sound like they were 'messing with whitey'. I've been shaken by similar incidents before and in my experiences here there really is some kind of game being played to frighten and intimidate people. It happened to my family who grew up here and continues today in the same neighborhoods and schools. These situations seem to put us in a situation where our reactions determine the outcome. They offer a threat, and if that threat (standing up for yourself is interpreted as a threat) is returned, they follow that with violence.

I don't want to see myself as being easily intimidated but these incidents are unprovoked and leave me victimized and uneasy. There is no recourse for behaving in a civil manner and no allowance to protect myself with deadly force, which is almost certainly necessary if I attempted to stand up for myself.

Last winter I was roadblocked on a one way street while coming back from work. Three heavily clothed men stood across the road, hoods up and hands hidden, and walking towards my moving vehicle. I slowed down as I approached them, first coming to a crawl and then to a stop. As I let the car creep forwards two of the men spread forwards to the sides of my car while they all began waving their arms and yelling at me. They were about 15 feet away before my car came to a complete stop and I began laying into the car horn, but it was obvious they knew that they were in my way and it was no accident. Things were looking like an incident might arise so I kept my mouth shut and the horn blaring. They still came closer and began yelling and posturing at me. I was feeling very threatened and irritated that they would block the road and surround my car, and I found myself wondering if anything useful was in the trunk and how fast could I reach it. Also, what good would it do to 3 men, possibly armed, who could get the drop on me as soon as I left the vehicle.

The closest man to my door yelled "Whatchoo gonna do? Whatchoo gonna do about this, huh? See what happens! Get out and see what happens!"

It was time to bail. I hit the gas and headed around the man in front of me, looking in my rear view mirror to see all of them high-fiving and giving handshakes.

I should ad that I am of student age and work on Campus. I was walking back to my car which was parked 1/2 mile off campus, so I can avoid paying the $50 monthly for a permit. $50 a month is a lot and the bus no longer runs to my neighborhood after 8PM. This all happened during a rash of muggings and assaults which happened on campus, some of which involved a gun. All incidents targeted students returning home after dark. Naturally, the University told everyone not to be out after dark and to report any incidents.

The only thing I should have reported was some damage to my bumper :cuss:
