A High School Paper

No, BGlaze250, not revolution. We are not there... yet. Give it a hundred years or so, and maybe. But not yet. We can still change it by civil means, I just don't know how. I get just as mad as any of us, and I want to take Barbara Mikulski's head off with a .50 BMG just as much as anyone else sometimes. But revolution is not the answer to our current predicament. Intelligent discussion and activism is. If the blacks could counter the injustices against them (which were far worse than those against us, might I remind you) without resorting to full-scale revolution, than so can we.

Along with what Zoogster says, college won't be much better. I lucked-out and goto a school that stresses personal responsibility. Even offered a class called "Personal Security and Defensive Skills".. everyone thought it would be martial arts. Nope - it was all firearms training. The class "lab" with a week-long pistol course at Gunsite and CWP classes for those old enough.

However, most colleges will place you in a bad position for a pro-2A stance. I have heard of professors simply refusing to grade papers they didn't agree with. It's rare, but it will happen. Grades can be even more heavily influenced by whether or not a professor likes you. The only things you can do are grin and bear it... or try and find a school that doesn't follow those guidelines.

Yeah, I was joking, mostly.

Unfortunately, sometimes we can't tell who's joking and who's not.
Smileys, people! Use the smilies!

I thought your paper was written quite well. Unfortunately, if you have a liberal, close-minded teacher and you're writing about Pro-gun stuff or anything else liberals find offensive you're likely to receive a bad grade. I had classes in college where I could NOT get higher than a B/B- on anything. Luckily most of the professors teaching in my major were open to opinions and were fair graders.

Its sad that you were expelled for having a knife on you. I graduated highschool in 03, and I remember back in elementary school I was in boy scouts and carried a pocketknife to school with me. The school didn't care. They knew I was a good kid and the worst that ever happened was my being asked to put it away. Nowadays they'd go ape**** if anyone saw a kid with a 3" pocketknife.

I didn't get expelled. Almost. I was suspended and had an expulsion hearing where everyone looked at me like I was about to whip out an UZI and shoot them. They were gonna expel me, but they didn't.

Still, it's rediculous that you were suspended for that. Zero-tolerance is just an excuse for school officials to act without using their brains.

Schools

Nolo, what you said in your paper was good and you pretty well placed
your ideas and opinions in the correct order. However, you must come to
realize that when you write a paper that you know is going to light a fire,
it must be done in such a way as to be a "cool" fire. It must be stated in
such a way that the ignorant cannot fully condemn what you have stated,
but is still leaves them feeling uneasy.
Also, it was rather wordy, overusing the same word in a sentence more than
once, such as "our".Watch your sentence stucture and the teacher must in
fairness, give you a passing grade.
I wish you well in your educational endeavors. Keep writing, also.:):):):)

Keep some things in mind

You don't have to go to school once you turn 18, legally speaking.

High School has no relevance in the normal word a day world.

College has no relevance in the normal work a day world.

People who do not finish high school are more likely to succeed in their own business than those who go through High School and College.

High School and College only place you in the position to be a good employee. If your desire is to work for someone else the rest of your life, by all means, finish high school and college.

The reason they did not expel you was because the whole point of the exercise was to dominate you. If you acted scared they had already achieved their goal.

Now that is out of the way.

Sorry to hear about your accident.

I liked what I read of your paper. The formatting does not work to well. I like to leave line spaces in what I write as it makes it a little easier to parse. Especially on some blogs like this where the lines are a bit too long for quick reading.

Be well.

Jesus once said, "Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves."

Seems applicable here.

My guess is that your self-admitted belligerence had more to do with your troubles (i.e. your suspension, etc.) than your topic or the utility knife.

That not withstanding, your essay was reasonably well-written, and, depending on the nature of the objectives for the assignment, would probably have garnered an A in my classroom.

By the way, not all public school teachers are liberals or blissninnies.

I though it was a very good paper . You seem to have a good head on your
sholders and I predict you will go far in anything you set your mind to.

@ Houston Petty: I believe I was using repetition, a literary device. However, sometimes it doesn't sound as good as it should. And I agree, I'm way to belligerent for school.
@ dzimmerm: You are correct, however, I shall continue my education for that very reason: to garner what knowledge I can from it. It's harder than it should be...
@ XD fan: Yeah, I know that I can be too hot to handle sometimes. But I wouldn't go so far as too say that contributed to it more than everything else. Some of the lower downs didn't ant to suspend me, but they did.
@ 308nato: Thank you.

SixBravo... what college did you go to? It's now at the top of my list.

I still go there. Started late with college. Embry-Riddle's Arizona campus (Florida's is less gun friendly from what I've been told). It's not a traditional school, though. They specialize in training pilots, engineers, aircraft accident investigators, and intel analysts. If you're from NOVA, they like pulling students from that area. From there myself.

NOVA? Northern Virginia?
Or a program?
And I want to go be an engineer, so that's all good.
You think they'll like a 2090 on the SAT?

Should have specified... The engineering department is mostly geared towards aeronautics and space physics.

NOVA meaning Northern VA, yeah.

I think they'd take that if your GPA is decent. Depends on what you do outside of school, too.

Yeah, went on the website, saw that.
Doesn't turn me off, I'm applying.
But I'm from Southern Maryland, does that count?
