So I picked up a Winchester 1300 Defender some guy dolled up but never fired. He installed a Speedfeed stock and a Surefire equipped forend. The only problem is he didn't quite tighten up the stock, so when I ran some buck through it the receiver started to walk a bit. Since I didn't install the stock I am not 100% sure how it disassembles. I know the shoulder pad as to come off to access the bolt but I can't tell exactly how the pad is removed to do this.

I figured I would as the nube question instead of ruining the stock.

The recoil pad is held on by two screws that are accessed through either small holes or slits in the rubber pad. Locate the holes/slits in the recoil pad first.

Then, with a #2 Phillips head screwdriver (easier if the shaft is lubed a bit with dish soap) remove the two screws holding the pad in place.

NOTE: If the Speedfeed stock is of the magazine type, the recoil pad also holds in the magazine springs (unless the design has changed since mine was made). Be careful to control the magazine springs in removing the pad. Don't lose the springs/followers.

You should be able to observe the stock bolt with the pad removed. Note what tool it takes to tighten the bolt (hex head or slotted screw head, most likely). Tighten the bolt firmly, then replace the pad.

No problemo...
