There is an apocryphal story of a guy who held up a bank with a 1911. When caught, it was discovered it was made by Singer. The WWII 1911s manufactured by Singer of sewing machine fame are the rarest, worth many times his "haul" from the robbery. :D

The one I read about many years ago was in Canada where a man robbed a savings and loan of $8000 with a 1911 made by the Ross Rifle Co. At the start of the war, our US govt. had contracted for Ross to build some 1911's and send them in for evaluation, but Ross didn't get a contract and abandoned the project. Somehow, years later, the felon got a hold of one, probably stole it. Canadian cops, after they arrested the guy, told him he robbed a bank with a $50,000 pistol
