So my Uncle and his 2 kids (aged 20 and I *think* 14) that my brother and Dad and I had gotten into shooting and home defense came over to our place Saturday morning for another full day of shooting in our backyard range- always a ton of fun! 
My Uncle had a friend that was selling off all his gun because he was totally broke, so there were some new arrivals to the safe(s)- a Hawk/Norinco 981/982 (whichever one has a bead instead of GR sights) for my Uncle to one up his Hi-Point 9mm (it goes bang every time I've seen its trigger pulled, so no arguments there. It was all my Uncle could get my Aunt to let him spend on a gun! )as his house gun, haha. Never seen that one brought up in "best gun for $X" thread!
My brother and I bought another AK for $250 ( !! ), a Romanian 7.62 with 10 round single stack mags (subject to change) and wood "SVD/Dragonov" type furniture, also subject to change. Has some gritty cosomoline and hasn't been shot enough, but (you guessed it) also subject to change. It goes bang. It is MO-Man at 100 yards, and it was super inexpensive. I'm a happy boy...
The friend was also selling an SKS for $100-$150, which we didn't buy first time 'round. That'll be changing here shortly before you get on me for passing it up!
What did he pay for the shotgun? He haggled it down to $25- wow! He was really excited to show me the shotgun, because I have somehow gained a reputation for being good with a pump shotgun 'round the family- in the words of my Uncle -"You're like a beast!" and my 20 y/o cousin "How did you shoot it like that?"
While I'm no Navy SEAL, I do have a lot of rounds (not to some of you guys) through my pump shotguns, and know how to take apart a Hawk/Norinco shotgun, so I was more than happy to teach my Uncle how to use the gun and take care of it. When they first arrived, after some nice chit-chat- my 20 y/o cousin is recently a father- I wiped off the gun, took a peek at the innards, slapped on a 5 shell butt cuff as a free gift to my uncle, and wiped out the barrel. It was really stiff and the trigger felt... crunchy, but I deemed it good to shoot before a big cleaning before they left. Big mistake!
So we shoot tons of guns for hours and hours, trying out each other's pistols, talking HD shotguns, gun safety, how to run a HD shotgun, where to keep it, camping, driving, sports, AKs, Faith, dogs, work, life, more guns, you get the idea...
Got my 14 y/o cousin shooting for the second time- that was great! She was really afraid of the guns at first, and got a nasty slide bite first time out with a .32 Kel-Tec... not good! She reluctantly agreed to shoot a 10/22 with Tech Sights, and her first words after the 10 round mag was empty were, "Daddy, can I get one of those?" Score! Haha...
Test out the new AK, I get my Uncle and Cousin shooting and reloading the shotgun well, everyone is in a big competition to see who can blow off rounds at a silhouette target with one of three 9mms better, tons of fun...
When we are all done shooting, a sad time, we go up to clean guns, chop firewood, and keep talking up a storm. I get started on detail cleaning the Norinco 12 gauge. Pull the barrel off, in good shape. And then... I pull out the trigger group.
IT IS COVERED IN GRIT AND COBWEBS AND DOZENS AND DOZENS OF DEAD INSECTS. THE RECEIVER BEHIND THE BOLT HAS PILES OF ROTTING ROACHES.
My Uncle and I just sat there in shock, and then started laughing our heads off with jokes about how at least we know the gun will be reliable when dirty. It also explained the sticky pump and crunchy trigger. I put on some rubber gloves and set to work with some Hoppes and a toothbrush... and toothpicks, and a Swiss Army Kinfe, and Q-Tips, and much more. Yuck!
An hour or two later, I hand the gun to my Uncle, clean as new, with half the trigger pull and a way better action.... wonder why... After a lot of good byes and thank yous, they finally headed out, after a great day of family shooting, with quite a few surprises and a lot of...different...memories!
