This new front sight can be installed by a gunsmith into just about any fixed sight revolver, DA or SA. Cosmetically it will match most guns, and it can be shaved down and cold-blued to meet most elevation needs.

It won't be tall enough for most adjustable sight guns and wouldn't be needed. What's neat about it is the set-screw, which allows you to leave it windage-adjustable yet lock it down tight for shooting or esp. fieldwork.

It's a certainty this will soon be available in gold bead and possibly fiber optic and/or tritium, not by FA but by others. This will be a standard part for fixed-sight FAs and could finally give us a standard aftermarket dovetail type as the blades will be available to gunsmiths soon if not now. With a bit of luck, any gun (FA or otherwise) set up for this dovetail cut will be able to select from an array of front sight options.

If Ruger was REALLY smart they'd do a dovetail cut of this type for all Vaqueros and put a plain blade in from the factory, knowing that the aftermarket will support numerous options. USFA might be convinced to do likewise with or without Ruger.

Maybe some of the Italians too - we should talk with Cimmaron about this.

Trust me, guys. Standardization of this dovetail cut would solve many, MANY problems. It would eliminate ever twisting barrels again when the factory windage was off, and allow way more options way cheaper than we have presently.

It is also a neat option for poeple who want the barrel cut on a DA revolver. It should be fairly easy for a gunsmith to cut a dovetail in the rib and install this...

Something like I had done on my M85UL Taurus some years ago. I also had a gold elevation index wire embedded into the sight for long range plinking, but mostly to index my light .38 load that shoots very low. It works GREAT for that and I have the windage dead on. Another benefit was getting rid of that shiny stainless front sight and getting a black, easier to see, sight out there. Might not be great for low light, but works better with a light. Another thing a good smith can do is install a tritium bead for those who worry about low light. Or, you could just put a set of crimson trace grips on it for low light.

Mine doesn't have the set screw, just fits very tight in the dove tail.
