I picked up a used Beretta model 85 Cheetah (.380 Auto) awhile back because I have always loved the way those nickel and walnut models look, but I would really like to put some different sights on it. The rear sight is dovetailed, drift adjustable, but the front is a fixed ramp. Anybody have any experience converting these to a better sight package?
Is there enough material in the slide to cut a dovetail for a new front sight? I would like to give it to a gunsmith to upgrade, but I don't know if it's either feasible or a bad idea to begin with. I would appreciate any comments.

I think someone on Beretta Forum . Net had Trijicon drill out the front sight and make a rear sight for the gun - It's not cheap, though - close to $200.

I forget the name of the compact - Trijicon farms out part of there work to them. Check Berettaforum.net and ask there. Someone can help U.

Don't feel bad Tom. I recently sold my 85 becauae it was shooting 3 in. to the left off of a rest at 15 measured feet!!!!!

I wouldn't mind so much if it was just off a bit - I could do something to compensate for that. My problem is that these 54 year old eyes just have a hard time seeing those red dots that come on the factory sights.
How about some kind of fluorescent paint I could touch those babies up with?
