Okay, I'm testing the waters again. Does anybody know of a gunsmith or custom house that can do custom sights on a S&W N-Frame? I want new sights on my 625.

It has flat black target sights that are useless in low light. I tried replacing them with Cylinder & Slide fixed 3-dot combat sights. But the front sight included had no dot and no contour; it was just a blade that you're supposed to modify yourself and install your own dot on, apparently. (Moreover, it was dovetailed and my gun doesn't have a dovetailed front sight...geez, hundred bucks wasted there...)

So what can I do? I really very sturdy (better than S&W factory, even) adjustable night sights for this gun. Fixed night sights would work also. Failing night sights, I'd like sturdy or rugged high-viz sights, something good for combat shooting. This is a working gun for me, not a target pistol.

Can anybody help? As you can read, the Cylinder & Slide sights just didn't work out. What other options do I have?

Thanks!

The HiViz www.hivizsights.com front sight on my 325 is pretty rugged.

The light pipe is over molded with a clear hard resin. They seem to be as durable as a regular blade.

Good Luck...

I think I may have found my rear sight. Observe.

All I'd need to do then is find an appropriate front sight, then send the whole thing off for custom tritium lamp installation.

Geez. As popular as revolvers are, you think SOMEBODY would make better sights for them. I know sixgun shooters can be a crotchety conservative bunch, but high visibility sights can be extremely useful, as can night sights.

I've looked at the XS sights. I don't know about their dot-the-i configuration. I'm used to 3-dot or white-outline-colored-ramp sights. But if I did want to switch over to that system, Bowen makes a rear sight that'd be just perfect with one of their tritium dot front sights.

What really gets me is that a lot of these custom night sight places make them for Desert Eagles and other impractical guns, but not for S&W revolvers. :banghead:

I've looked at the Meprolite adjustable night sights, but have heard they're flimsy. I want something rugged.

C&S will remove your pinned front sight and cut a dovetail for $73. They will then install tritium lamps in your C&S brand fixed sights for $180. (Disclaimer: Those two specific services are cataloged here and here. I haven't used them myself.)

What all options have you looked at?

Go to your local fishing supply house, ask for GLO in Dark Jig paint.

Clean the front sight with acetone, then dab a little of the vinyl Glow in the dark paint on there. works like a charm. cost about $ 3 a bottle. I find the Chartreuse color stays lit a LONG time. I used to use this on my front sights till I decded to update my pre 70 commander to a dovetail front sight. If I put it on the night stand under the table lamp for the half hour it was on, I would get till daybreak glow.

If you share the house with a woman, try cleaning the front sight with nail polish remover and try painting the front sight with her brightest nail polish. you would be amazed at how tough this stuff is now. and how bright "screaming neon orange" is .

As for the adding night sites. call Ahlmans in Morristown Mn www.ahlmans.com. best gun shop I know

here is a price list
http://www.ahlmans.com/handgunwork.html

I would guess for less than a honeybee you can get it done. parts and labor.

This isn't all that difficult.

Most of the night sight companies will install luminous inserts in most revolver sights.

The rear is usually a replacement for the actual rear sight blade, so the entire sight doesn't need to be replaced.

The front is either a new blade, or they can install an insert in the stock front sight.
Some installations replace the stock front sight red insert.

Contact the night sight makers for pricing.
