Hiya Guys :) ...

Lookie what showed up on the local gun Grapevine yesterday, unfortunately a friend that I do a lot of gun business with beat me to it.

The next thing I know I get a text from him letting me know that he has it and he's interested in a trade. He's been after my AR & of course that's what he's interested in. Well, I thought about picking one of these up when they first started importing them but at the time there were a couple other things that were on my bucket list I wanted to add to my collection first and I wound up missing the boat on these because they're almost impossible to find now let alone get a good deal on.

Well, I jumped online to do a little research and refresh my memory on these and as I suspected they've jumped 3x or more in price since they quit importing them, the supply dried up and the demand went up just like we've all seen many times, needless to say, since I only had $400 into my AR I jumped on the trade deal and now I finally have a really nice Century Arms 7.62x39 VZ58 (VZ2008) :) .

I'm not very fond of the side folding stock and I will be looking to replace it with a standard vz58 buttstock, but as far as that goes I really like the look of the Bakelite furniture. This has an open bolt carrier design just like the SKS or the mini 14 which I really like and I also like the extended bolt charging handle & the muzzle brake & I really like the fact that it has the last round bolt hold open feature as well as a stripper clip feed on the bolt carrier just like the SKS. This also has a nice trigger and standard ak-style sights and it came with two 30 round magazines and a couple hundred rounds of Tula Ammo & the original sling. All-in-all I like it, I'm happy and I think this was a really good trade :) ....

My brother has one of those and it is just awesome. So much better than any ak i have ever played with. Love the mags too. I will see if he still has the extra stock if you need it.

Thanks, please do, that would be appreciated :) ...

The beaver barf stocks return! I remember those were all the rage on the internet when PSA was selling them for $399 apiece, never really heard a bad thing about them.

I don't think they're imported any more, so heck yeah, I'd trade a $400 AR for that in a heartbeat. Even a freaking WASR is worth about $700 these days, and those VZ 58s are a nicer gun.

:what::neener::rofl:

Nice! I still wish I'd picked a Rashid back before people realized how rare they are and prices skyrocketed.
Haunt the pawnshops my friend especially in a metro area. The oddball stuff is often the stuff that is underpriced. That is how I picked up a Ruski SKS, a T99 Arisaka with mum, bipod, and aircraft sights, a pre-Model S&W Model 15 with a 5 inch barrel, and so on for very reasonable prices. Get GunnyUSMC on the case, I am sure he could find you one for $99 if he chose.

Haha.....doubt it. Any halfway smart pawnshop would check Gunbroker before taking in something unusual like a Rashid or VZ58, but you're right, sometimes you get lucky.;)

A lot of them don't know how to identify firearms and they make their money off of loans anyway. Pawn shops are often more reasonable because the wise ones keep their money rolling over and loan pennies on the dollar on what it is worth. Most will also deal on a item--if you learn the pawnbroker's code, you can use that knowledge of how much they loaned on it to negotiate. It is often on the item or price tag.

My VZ2008 is my most accurate AK style rifle, the only thing I don't like is it kicks brass upward and don't have a scope rail. With the original Century slant muzzle brake, the folding stock kicks your face. Changed out the slant brake and a pipe foam wrapped on the stock helps! Got a pair of them when PSA was selling them at $399 with 4 mags, mag pouch, and accessories. Sold one at $750 before the election. It is a good deal if you got it for $400. Today's AK price is ridiculous, I would say a fair price is around $500.

Oops , I forgot to mention this also features a milled receiver with a threaded barrel and a parkerized type finish. The Milling work was done nicely and there are no tooling marks that I can find other than a couple small striations , I like it. I'll take a milled receiver over a stamped steel receiver any day of the week and twice on Sunday :) ...

Is it a Century receiver or Czech manufactured? If Czech, did they make both stamped and milled? I know my AKs, but virtually nothing about the VZ.

It's a milled Century receiver, not a stamped receiver like AK's have. Come to think about it these have absolutely nothing in common with the AK other than the x39 cartridge , even the mags are proprietary to the VZand made from aluminum and not stamped steel so they're lighter but they seem to be nicely made and fit Snuggly in the receiver.

Aks come in both milled and stamped variations. The stampings can be anywhere from 1.0 to 2.0 mm stock as well, depending on the model and country of manufacture.

These are neat rifles. I got one from PSA when they were still imported for 4 Bill's. The kit included a bayonet, sling, leather mag pouch and 5 magazines.

They might look like an AK but handle way better. Mine does have a common issue with the trigger, and there is an easy fix, but I've never bothered to address it.

You did good buickman. Congrats
