First off if this thread belongs in another area I apologize.

The Detroit Free Press ran an article today chronicling the decade that has passed since Michigan became a "Shall Issue" state. While I know not all liberals oppose gun rights it seems to me that many liberal news organizations do. This article quotes opponents of the original change from "May Issue" to "Shall Issue" however the majority of the opponents admitted that there was no "streets of blood" like they had forewarned. The only real organization that was quoted that still maintained the violence angle was the Brady Bunch.

I was pleasantly surprised to see a fairly liberal newspaper have what appeared to be a pretty fair look at gun rights in Michigan.

It's the same pattern we always see -- first, they predict a blood-bath if our state enacts shall-issue legislation. Then they wait gleefully for the predicted blood-bath to happen. And then it's, "I don't want to talk about it."

We have enough states with shall-issue laws and enough years experience with those laws that we can say definitively to the hold-out states that it is no longer intellecutually honest to predict what might happen -- people with integrity are compelled to say what did happen.

Way to maintain a position in the face of opposing evidence. Stay classy, Brady.

The day any of these g/control whackadoo associations admit they are wrong is the day America's unemployment rate goes up two full points.....

Facts and logic just bounce off some people. But at some early point it's willful ignorance. Or some might even call it lying...

If you tell a bunch of third graders that 3+3 equals seven enough times, eventually they'll take it as gospel.....

There have been several of those stories by various News Papers in the various States, all of which marveled at the fact that their predictions had not been borne out. You would think that in the decades since Florida started the modern trend of "shall issue" permits, that the idiot opponents of Concealed Carry would be too embarrassed to keep repeating the same old disproved lies. It makes you wonder if they weren't lying about why they opposed Concealed Carry in the first place.

I thought John Lott's statistical study "More Guns, Less Crime" was a very sound piece of work and most other studies reached similar conclusions. All statistical studies involve modelling uncertainties but I think it is very hard nowadays to argue for "shall issue" being a negative factor in US society as the Brady Bunch continues to do. Seems to me the societal impact of "shall issue" has most likely been somewhere between neutral and positive, but almost certainly not negative.
