A One-off, factory mistake??

Hummm.. Interesting, maybe part of a special order (govt, LE) that got shipped by mistake.. Who knows... but it does now sound like your in the drivers seat.. Prototype comes to mind.. maybe something that they have yet to secure with trademark or patent..

I too have been involved with two separate items that were made in my shop as a special order for a customer, that later we saw in catalogs as regular item.. one, the three hole crank pin for Harley. and a counter weighted spark advance for Harley (was a real HP model that could be set for really radical spark advance) ... We will never make that mistake again.. Both made for the same customer, both wound up the Drag Specialties Catalog the next year... Now everybody's got them in their catalogs.

I think the answer is rather clear and has been touched on already: It's in your possession, it got there legally, and it's yours. Since your spidey-sense tells you that they're monkeying around with you, possibly outright lying, you shouldn't trust them to do what they've promised you orally.

Personally, I'd agree to send it back to them once you've received the identical item and have had an opportunity to verify it has passed your inspection. Until then, I'd say "no." What they've told you isn't plausible, you're justifiably leery, and you shouldn't assume that they'll suddenly start dealing with you honestly.

this is a whole lotta W T F...what a weird situation...posession is 9/10ths of the law. Enjoy your 45

My Bravo Sierra meter is off the charts on this one, If they really want it back find out how much they want it back, let them put a dollar value on it.

I wonder how good your factory warranty customer service is going to be, should you require service on a pistol that the factory wanted back (for whatever reason) and you refused to return...

That's what I was thinking, SwampWolf. Ordering something else from said company, should that ever be considered, might also result in problems, delays, et cetera.

I'd get it in writing that I would receive the same product (and in a timely manner), then send back the one they want. It goes without saying that shipping both ways will be at their expense. Ask them to sweeten the deal with magazines, accessories, et cetera if there will be FFL transfer costs involved. You get what you want...and so do they.

:)

Could we infer that O.P. is saying ...

... that there would be TWO guns with identical ser. #s after the exchange??

Couple things, my spidy sense tells me that there is probably something the OP is not telling us. I would also consider STI to be a very reputable manufacturer and if they say they will return a proper frame to you, I would believe them. Get it in writing and get them to pay shipping. However, you will HAVE to return the complete gun, not just the frame. If the frame is to be replaced, it will have to be fitted.

nope. it's all there minus the company name. the only other thing missing is that i still haven't rcvd the themed grips, not worth mentioning.. called the day I picked up the weapon and rep said that ALL the grips were not fitting. so they were re-working that batch and they would come later. spidey's off. like i said earlier, left off the name, cause I know it's all about reputation.

AND: they haven't called back or emailed. It's been 2 days, I think they cut their loss and finally moved on.

BTW: I would LOVE(!!!!!) another STI, esp in single stack 40.. (not a hint or anything,,, I'm just saying,,,)

A friend bought a beretta .22 short and it was marked .32 ACP all over the gun.

He called Beretta and they bothered him about getting it back for a while. He kept it as a mismark/ one off.

I guess they don't want any liability if someone tries to load .32 and shoot it?

Birdmag, there are a number Beretta models that are almost identical except for springs, barrel and mag, not an impossible mistake.

I just hope it's not a safety issue and that gun doesn't self-destruct in your hand some day.

If they are telling the truth and they really are going to send you the same frame with the same serial number the frame is probably defective in some way or made os something special they don't want out there yet.

My response would be "I'd be happy to send it back. All you have to do is send me a full refund AND the exact same model with rails. Is it worth that much to you?"

If they say it is, tack on another thousand dollars. Can't hurt to ask.
