Here are a pair of Smith & Wesson Model 66's. Both are just Model 66's, without any dash numbers. They are very early Model 66's with the all stainless(Front & rear)sights!:
You have made me very jelous. I started off looking for a 66, wound up with a 620 fresh off Smith's presses (long story). Sure, it's nifty, but yours are just so beautiful, it makes me want to cry........*sniff*..........
I appreciate all of the nice compliments coming in from everyone! Although my pictures aren't perfect, they are getting better. I'm not yet, very experienced with my latest digital camera-so, I'll just need to practice taking more pictures until I can finally achieve the best results! However, these two Model 66's were very photogenic though(Which certainly helped)!
Bought this 66-nothing new in March 1975. Carried it in the squad as a back up and carried it quite a bit while hunting.
I had one of the first 2.5" Mod 66 released by S&W. A friend was close friends with one of the S&W VPs and he spent a lot of time at S&W. He got 3 of the first 2.5" Mod 66s released. I got one of those. My dad has it now. He use to carry it quite a bit.
In my limited experience, those sights are not very useful to me. Beautiful guns, but w/o the red ramp, and with the stainless leaf in the rear sight assembly, I just can't pick them up.
1)You are right about the all-stainless sights being difficult to pick up for shooting purposes! However, this doesn't matter to me-since I don't ever plan on shooting these gems!
2)The all-stainless sights, is what makes these early Model 66-nothing revolvers so unique, for collecting them!
Depends on what you get use to. Look at all the fixed sight stainless guns S&W turned out over the years that had all stainless sights.
What's funny to see are guys who complain about stainless sights but then will have blued guns and paint their front sights white while target shooters will blacken all their sights including those on blued guns.
