What is better than an S&W Model 66?

I prefer a model 13 or 65 for carry, with the 13 having the edge for beauty, and the 65 having the edge for rust resistance.
That, however, is my opinion. It's worth every penny you paid me for it.

Back on topic, I have been trying to find another 66 (or even a 19) ever since I bought my first one. No luck so far, but I keep looking.

My first, and so far only, 66. A no dash model.

To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.
Apart from that? Not much. A blued steel Model 19 or 27 maybe?

I went to a gunshow a couple years ago, specifically looking for a 4" model 66, (I fell in love with one owned by a freind of a freind, that he wouldn't part with) and found a very clean no-dash ( on a table full of nice very revolvers) that the guy "dropped" the price for me to $480 otd. I felt I might still be paying a little much, even started a thread here asking if I did, but since it was exactly what I was looking for,in great condition with very tight lock-up, I'd have been an idiot to pass on it in the hopes of finding another that was at best $50 less.

If they don't make something anymore, and you really want it, and you have the money, and you might not see one again soon, then the price is never too high...that is not to say that you shouldn't always negotiate...but things have a way of jumping up in price if you wait too long. I never miss any money I've spent, but I still miss some lost opportunities to snag a few things that slipped by, or I waited to long to jump on.

I wish I had a 2.5", but all I seem to be finding are 4". Maybe if I was careful, I could use a hacksaw or something?

Also, is it possible to send these back to S&W to have that lock installed?

Well, how about three(No dash#)model 66's?::)

Well, I know what was running through my mind as soon as I read it...
TWO S&W model 66s.

Looks like we have the same answer. My problem is, I haven't found the second one yet. But I'm way ahead of those who still haven't found their first :)

Mine is nothing special, just a well-used, 4" ex-LEO gun. But it is the gun that taught me to love revolvers, and for that reason if no other... I will never let it go.

While the M19/M66 are some of the best carry guns known to man there's nothing wrong with the M13/M65 either. Actually, for concealed carry the fixed sights of the M13/M65 might be better.

I ran into a retired Policeman last week at a local gun shop. He was carrying a 4" M13 which was the same exact revolver he was issued when he fist joined the force. When they switched over to semi-autos he was offered his M13 at the unreal price of $35 so he bought it. He has carried it every day of his retirement and intends to continue carrying it always. (it's in the original off duty holster too)
