Still considering a wonderfinish for my BHP, and I would like to know more about Tripp's Cobra Chrome.

If you have that finish on any of your guns, what are your impressions of it?

    Does Tripp's offer brushed flats?

    TIA,
    Wes

Awhile back I bought a new BHP which I immediately disassembled and sent the frame to Tripp's. The work was excellent, the price reasonable and the turnaround was quick (7-10 days). I also found Mr. Tripp to be very friendly and helpful during our phone conversations.

I have a Colt Commander that has the Tripp Research hard chrome finish with brushed flats. Gorgeous finish and it cleans up so easily - the dirt/grime/soot just wipes off with little effort.

Mine was done back in 2004.

Here's a P7M8 I asked Virgil to HC back around 2000. This isn't the best picture, but you should be able to tell that the internals were done as well as the outside (some other hardchromers have had complaints that the internals were not as 'nice' as the exterior).

HC is soooo easy to clean! Just wipe down with a rag afterwards, no need for solvents.

You are the only one that can decide. The real reason why we HC our guns is because we want them to look pretty, and we don't want them to scratch or rust easily, the added benefit of a easily cleaned surface is also great.

The real benefits of HC is it's usefulness in industrial heavy machining applications, oil well drill heads are HC'd for durability for example. These industrial tools get more hard use in 3 months than any of our guns will in several lifetimes.

HC on Stainless is a pretty fine combination in regards to durability and anti-corrosion.

HC has a Rockwell Hardness rating of between HRC 70-75. I think the stainless steels in your pistol only has a hardness in the low 50's.
