A question from a pistol man

As he says above, it was. but when you mix hyperbole, sarcasm, and fact within the same statement, sometimes it's nice to add an appropriate emoji.
As for shot size, I personally believe that shot smaller than #4 Buck should not be used as an anti-personnel load except when nothing else is available.
True, but smaller shot can be used for practice to become familiar with the gun's operations.

Absolutely..............and I'll be driving 6 hours tomorrow to go to a 2 day shoot two states over

There is a lot to be said hyperbole, sarcasm and Hollywood movies! Why do you think your BS was used in movies to begin with? It's for the same BS Dirty Harry used "the most powerful hand gun in the world" (Which we all know it wasn't; ) Or because during WW I the German army was terrified of dough boys using Win. Model 97 trench shotguns which were extremely devastating in close quarter combat. Psychologists today, have a very positive view of people's reactions, something like yours but in reverse, when confronted with a big shotgun, with a big, wide muzzle pointed in their direction.

The best defensive load for the 12 bore pump is the 16 pellet #1 buckshot.

Pellets only slightly smaller and lighter than 00 and moving slightly slower, but you get 16 of them in a fwo and threes quarters shell vs a mere 9 pellets of 00.

That's a good recommendation. Just make sure there's 20 gauge ammo to be had.
I have a Stoeger 20g over/under(that I really like, BTW) and 20g bird(7.5 shot) and SD stuff(1 shot and 4 shot) pretty easy to find at Bass Pro, Sportsman's Warehouse.

Around here, 20ga is more scarce than 12ga and. 410 and 16ga is none existent. Oddly enough, I've seen 28ga on some Walmart shelves. If I had to choose today, at this moment, between 12 and 20ga, I'd get 12ga just because of ammo availability.

The part of your statement I bolded is pure BS. They only do that in Hollywood movies, not real life. The rest of it I agree with 100%.

If he did not have any guns, I'd say a GForce 12 ga. would be better than a sharp stick, but only if he knows how to use it. Since he has some pistols and a shotgun already, I suggest you give them back to him, Brubz, so he has something.
Perhaps a bit hyperbolic....I grew up with a fellow who was missing the left cheek of his ass. Literally. His brother swung on a covey of quail and shot him there at about 10-15 yds with a 12 ga #8 shot. He nearly bled to death before getting to the doctor. Shotguns raise havoc on human bodies....yes, even birdshot. I knew grunts in Vietnam who would carry nothing else on patrol. I keep one next to my bed every night, and it feels really cozy, and has for many of my 71 yrs. Just don’t bring it out if you don’t intend to use it.

The only downside to shotguns is that it takes two hands to use. When something goes bump in the night they can be a unwieldy. I like to have a free hand when creeping around in the dark. A big bore revolver is hard to beat. But a shotgun in capable hands is the ultimate.

3 points of contact means better support and accuracy
