Ok I have a frustrating problem I purchased a llama out of sentimental value even tho I knew it was wayyyyyy overpriced first handgun purchase get it flawlessly. Fast forward to today and I got denied a different transfer for a handgun I bought online. Asked countless people and no one can answer why I got approved for my first handgun but now denied even the lady on the hotline was bewildered about what's going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Btw I'm in wisconsin

If you were denied, did they give you the appeal information? Only recourse you have at that point is to file one with the ATF and find out why.

Wisconsin has a state "point of contact" for handguns. When you were denied your dealer should have given you the transaction number as well as information on how to proceed with an appeal.
Why would you ask countless people when you can go straight to the source....Wisconsin Department of Justice. They are required by law to tell you the reason for your denial.

ATF has nothing to do with background checks. It is either FBI NICS or a state agency.
I've talked to them they can't tell me why I was denied or why I was approved on feb 11th and denied today they told me to file a appeal and wait a month they also admitted it can be a mistake on their part as well. I've gotte fingerprinted a few times by the fbi for my positions at wells fargo so I know for a fact there's nothing wrong with my background. I will be going tomorrow at 9am to be fingerprinted and then I guess calling back to speak with a supervisor I'm 99.9% positive its their fault hopefully I won't have to wait a month for a reversal.
Sometimes the mere existence of an open background investigation (in your case by the FBI) can be reason for a flag. It happens often to military, government, and contractor personnel with pending security clearance investigations (which can take many, many months to wind their way through the bureaucracy to final adjudication).
The data-base notation of an open investigation raises the red flag for purchase approval. The NICS people can't tell what the investigation is about...only that there is one.
It's happened to me.
The name confusion (perhaps a felon with your name) or stolen identity thing is also common. I don't like to, but providing your SSN on your Federal Firearms Form 4473 greatly minimizes the chance of being confused with a convicted bank robber residing in your state. In my experience, not providing your (optional) SSN info leads to delays.

Yes that's why I provded my ssn number both times its just really weird my background check was almost a year ago now I do have two last names if the hotline only used one it could cause a problem because that name wouldn't exist its happened before to me. I guess ill just have to speak with a supervisor tomorrow.

Maybe I did not read all of the post correctly as you may have already answered this, but I am curious as to how many gun purchases you have made recently, if any, other than the first one. I know some ATF and FBI and I can tell you that if you have made multiple purchases within a limited amount of time or have bought many at the same time, it raises flags. To say it raises flags would actually be an understatement, that is assuming one did not have a dealers license. It does not stop people from eventually getting what they want but it has caused some delays to some people I know. It could be for a number of reasons and if I were you I would be on the phone asking for some answers.
You hit the nail on the head that's probably why I got denied bought my first handgun feb 11th wife bought a scratch off and won 500 bucks so I bought myself a taurus oss .40 for 330 bucks brand new I guess ill just have to go through the process thanks to everyone for the help
yup first gun was a llama .45 max 1 l/f put about 150 round through it hp fmj won't jam fires everytime not sure why they get a bad wrap granted it is a old timer which is why I bought the taurus .40 now have to wait god only knows how long till I get it.

The on line retailer received a "deny" and not a "hold"
The on line retailer even processed the check
Was a time you could have your Sheriff's Department run a "courtesy" check for you to confirm a dealers actions. I wonder if that's still possible.

OP never said it was an "online retailer".....and if it was they don't run the background check, thats done at the dealer where you pick up your gun.
FBI NICS has never allowed a courtesy check, practice check or trial run. Doing so will cause an FFL to lose his NICS access. LE doesn't have access to the FBI NICS but can run a similiar check through NCIC. Any LEO who uses NCIC for anything other than official business (and a courtesy check isnt) faces loss of access to NCIC and possibly losing his job.

And as far as courtesy checks and "never was" scenarios - you're quite wrong as I had done them many, many times in the past with no ill effects regardless of what our experiences may be. To falsify regarding a particular purchase was uncool but to verify status was not a problem.

well i went at 9am to be fingerprinted and lo and behold even the officers downtown milwaukee told me i shouldnt be going through this. If i got accepted for the first one theres no reason i should be denied he made me call the hotline and they still could not tell me one word as to why another operator that didnt know anything bewildered at every question asked. Did everything anyways but will not be doing the transfer with the shop i will find a different ffl dealer. Funny thing is that the cops who helped me (multiple ones) all said that its probably something the dealer did to cause the denial they all said the same thing do not go there we sure dont. It was a eye opener to say the least now time to find a private ffl thats in it to help people not rip them off. For the people in wisconsin the shop is shooters shop horrible store i tell ya.

The only people that can answer the question is them that Denied you .... and they will only answer the question if you follow their appeal procedures.

I don't know about Wisconsin but currently in Virginia you can buy one handgun a month. They classify a month as 30 days. Wisconsin may be the same. I'm glad Virginia has finally repealed the "One Handgun a Month" Law. Check for a reason, someone has to know something.

I bought two guns at the same time at my local LGS and picked up a Saiga that I had ordered in at another FFL the next day. Sure glad we don't have any of those limitations here. I usually only get to buy stuff when we get our tax refund back, so stretching it out over a month or three would really chap my hide.
