I have heard it said many times that you cannot convince an anti that we are right about guns. Not true. I have done that.

Twenty years ago my then wife went to work for a Psychologist...who was so far to the left she could take one step to the left and fall off the left edge of the planet. She was virulently and rabidly anti gun, but she was also not opposed to learning and accepting logic and truth. I won't bore with a long story of how easy it was to shoot down (pun intentional) her arguments.

Slowly I got her to admit that she was wrong about guns. She was shocked to discover that all of the left's drivel and lies about guns were just that. She really was open minded, something few of the antis are. Being a Psychologist, she had always known, and finally grudgingly admitted it was the person, not the gun.

One day she came out to my place, and I asked her if she wanted to shoot a rifle. Her first time shooting a gun! She accepted and I immediately pulled out an AK-47 with a forty round magazine attached. She smiled and said she somehow just knew that I would have something like that around. It was my turn to smile. We went outside and I made her load the empty magazine, all forty rounds, which she managed to do without hurting her fingers too badly. I gave her some instruction and she fired off the entire mag, blasting jugs of water and rocks and whatever. She was giggling towards the end. When she was done I asked her which was more fun, loading the mag or shooting it off. She immediately got my point. Shooting is more fun than loading mags. The bigger the mag, the more time having fun between reloadings.

I took a picture of her holding the thing which she had enlarged and hung in her home. We finished by blowing up a patch of weeds with a pound of Tannerite.

I told her that was Redneck weed control.

If she was open to shooting a gun she wasn't that "anti".

All of the anti's I know would never accept that offer, extended family included.

Being open minded does go along ways....

Some people aren't educated beyond their ability to use it.

If said person realizes that the evidence doesn't fit their theory, they don't try at all costs to save their theory.

One of my wife's Russian-raised friends who is also anti-gun (she's married to a raging liberal and sucks everything he says up like a Kirby deluxe) recently told my wife that shooting a rifle is one of a few things she wants to one day try.

For reasons beyond this thread, it likely won't be any of mine if she ever does get to do so, though.

Glad your "conversion therapy" technique went well.

An guy I worked with is anti-gun in about the medium to mediu-heavy sense. Not all out raging stuff but pretty set against firearma since they have no logical purpose except possibly hunting. Anyway, he came to me a few weeks back and said he has a bucket list and shooting a firearm is on his list. Just to see what things are all about. I took him to the range and he shot my Ruger 22/45 pistol, a 1911 and my Ruger Precision Rifle (6.5 creedmoor at 200 yards, he shot 2 five round groups both under 1.5"). We had a blast all on my nickel. Well, this past Monday he came back in my office and wanted my help picking out a rifle for long distance target shooting (my range goes to 600 yards). He's stopping over this weekend so we can have some quality time discussing his wants and budget. Should be fun.

A man had a young daughter of about 11 , she always went to the range with her dad and did some shooting with his .22 rifle , one evening with her parents out she heard a banging at the back door , she looked through the window and saw 4 men busy breaking in , she ran to the safe unlocked it and had the rifle ready and loaded just as the criminals were coming down the passage , the first guy got it in the chest  he dropped , the second guy ducked sideways into a toilet and started trying to get out the window , number three turned and tried to run back down the passage , he made it out but not before she wounded him in the leg , he was picked up by cops later that evening , the guy trying to get out the toilet window got it from behind  and not in a good way , number four must have heard the commotion and decided that it was not his night because he was never seen or heard from again , now i always ask the anti-gun people this one question , take that .22 out of the story and think how it would have ended for that little girl ? today she is a mother of two young shooters herself , God bless Samuel Colt and all those good people who made sure that the civilized , the young , the old and the sickly also stand a chance to protect ourselves from the violent and uncivilized people of this world

A good friend of mine is married to a former school principal, and she was very anti-gun.

I can only guess at the conversation between my friend and his wife, but one day he approached me and asked if I could let her shoot some of my firearms at the range. She had a ball! Within an hour, she was planning what kind of firearm to get for herself.

Younger daughter had a near miss with burglars. That converted her from anti to pro.

Wife had a near miss with a car full of druggie/gang types in a parking lot after dark. Her 380 was a great comfort in that case. Now she is pretty religious about keeping it with her.... plus a very bright flashlight, a pepper spray, and a decent size folding knife. Don't mess with mommy.

In my 20+ years of 2A activism,,,

In my 20+ years of 2A activism,,,
I've only seen true anti conversion a few times.

My ex is a perfect example.

Before our upstairs neighbor went nuts and tried to break our door down,,,
She adamantly refused to even touch the 1911 I had,,,
Much less learn how to load and fire it.

I worked 5-days out of town when this happened,,,
She was on the phone to her boss trying to load and cock the 1911.

That's the funny part,,,
Her boss was the watch commander at her PD,,,
The irony is that my ex was a Public Safety Police Dispatcher at that time.

After that she was adamant about learning to use a handgun.

I have "shown the light" to many semi-anti gun folk,,,
Those are the ones I call "fence sitters".

Many times they aren't really anti-gun,,,
It's more often the case that they are just ignorant about them.

They didn't grow up around them,,,
And took the anti-gun stance by default of circumstances.

Those are the people I keep an eye out for,,,
Take them to the range with a nice .22 and convert them in one afternoon.

Anyways, good on you my friend.

Warms my heart to know I'm not the only one to have some success in bringing someone back from the dark side.

I had 1 success in about 3 dozen tries over 3 decades. That is a terrible batting average, so I gave up about 10 years ago.

I applaud the OP's effort and positive result. Trying to convert anti-gun Statists is the toughest work on the planet.

I don't know, I know a guy that spent his entire career in the Marines then retired to become a police chief in several small towns, being well known as a fair guy and a good cop.

He believes with his entire heart, that the only people that need guns are the Marines and cops....

I hear ya. I've heard that a couple of times before but I personally think those are rare cases.

It's beyond me how someone can be so involved in the military/LE yet have ideals that go against what they're serving for.

Ive converted my wife too.

Me and my brother in law (his wife is my wifes sister) converted the other 3rd sister who is a CA school teacher. She's now ok with the idea of some teachers being armed.... and she was waaay far left.

I also got one of my co-workers, who is pretty far left too, to open her eyes enough that she wants to try shooting with me. Now I just need to set up a date a 3way with her, me and the wife.... :uhoh: ... to go shooting.

Ive converted probably a dozen others to the point that they at least see that banning isn't the answer and guns aren't just for police and military.

Two Gun Charlie, that's a good story, but what is the response you typically get when you "always ask the antis" about it?
If you tell it right they actually see the picture , what kind of sick (B______) would argue that a young girl should be at the mercy of four adult criminals ? I haven't met a single person who even attempted to answer me , trying to do so would just make them seem like pedophiles and thank goodness the liberals haven't been able to make that socially acceptable yet so nobody wants to walk down that slippery slope.

On a different angle, I have often been able to get those sitting on the wire over to our side by inviting them to clay pigeon shooting with me , it usually gets them hooked , soon they have a shotgun and before long they have more guns than I do , go figure

i live in sw missouri. im not a big social person but really dont know anybody that doesnt own guns.

all my family owns guns. my mother may own more guns than me and im sure more short guns.

i work with a crew of about 14 heavy equipment guys and they all own guns.

oh wait my gfren does not have any guns but knows how to shoot and would like too own a few but can use mine anytime.she is a bowhunter.

so im sitting here thinking about who i know that does not have a gun in their household.

ok my ex wife does not have one but wants to buy one, so that doesnt count.

hmmm,i guess thats it. i dont really know anyone who is not a gun owner or at least pro gun.

carry on
