My Handgun Was Stolen!!!

By my wife...On her first trip shooting...ever. When I married her she as anti-gun but otherwise perfect. That was almost 3 years ago. Since then she has gone from anti to no guns in the house to keep them out of sight to go ahead and get your ND CCL to me losing custody of my Ruger P89.

Like I said, yesterday was her first time shooting a gun. She's not too accurate yet but she had fun. We still have to work on trigger dicipline but other than that she's very safe and has lots of fun. She even suggested getting a sitter every now and then and go on dates to the shooting range! When I asked her if she liked shooting she said that my .22 was okay but she loves my P89 and she wants it to be her gun. When I told her that she can have it if I can get another handgun she said that she has no problems with it (I'm afraid if I get another gun that one will get stolen). Also after stopping at a little town in Montana during our drive on the way back to ND, she told me that she might try to get a ND CCL so she can carry on vacation (mixed race couple pulling up to a gas station full of unfriendly looking people...I could've sworn I head the song from deliverance) My wife is awesome.
 
I'm hoping mine will turn out this way too, but she did not enjoy her first time out. Mine is a P85 though...maybe that's the difference ;)

You make that sound like a bad thing. Just set up a replacement rule that you get a new gun for every one she takes from you. Just make sure you get a little time with each new gun before you take her to the range to shoot it.
 
I did use 1 gallon jugs a reactive target for her first magazine with the P89 (hit it on the 10th shot) and the .22 (hit it on the first shot). I used it as a safety lesson. I told her to shoot those targets. Once she hit both of them, I said, that's what these guns will do to someone and then reminded her of the safety rules. From a person who's never shot a weapon her muzzle awareness was outstanding. We're hitting the range again in a few days and I'll bring out old veggies and water balloons.
 
it's going to get worse.
Soon she'll be wanting to go to gun shows to buy her own.
She'll know the name of the person that's your local FFL.

Next time you have a sitter for the kids and go shooting, stop in a cheap motel during the day. Make it a date.
I'm married 38 years and we still "sneak" off to cheap motels.

I know exactly how you feel! When I met my wife, she was the product of an anti-gun household. After 9 years of marriage, she owns 2 handguns and 3 rifles!

And, when you do, make sure to take the cased guns in with you. Should get an interesting reaction from any onlookers: "They didn't have any luggage, but they have guns? Just what do you think they are up to?" :)
 
Any advice on converting practices? :D

Not that she is Anti, she gets it....she is just ....detatched, no interest, she'll shoot and seems to enjoy herself....but not a LOT...maybe it'll never happen..

I've had a $1K shotgun and a pistol "stolen" that way and I'm not even married to the woman yet. I consider it one of the greatest things that ever happened. (Yes, I upgraded both times.)
 
My wife has shot...on occasion...rare occasion. With rifle or pistol she shoots very well...she just doesn't care about at all. No intrest. However, she wants to know my .45 is on me when we go out or hear that "bump in the night". I want her to get her carry permit but there isn't a chance I'll ever convince her of that.

I think I just lost the .38 snubby that I traded my .17HMR for last weekend. I showed it to my wife and showed her how to load it. Also took her through some dryfire practice. She had a gleam in her eye that I haven't seen before with handguns (she's not anti gun, but handguns make her nervous). If I'm going to be away from home I always leave one loaded and accessible to her at home. She asked that this one be the leave at home gun from now on. Guess that means I won't be CCW'ing it unless we are out together.
 
Um... I would consider carefully your next firearm purchase. You may end up losing that one too :p

On the other hand, the long term gains far outweigh the short term losses :D
 
Something to think about Aaryq is maybe get another P-series that has the same manual of arms as your P89, maybe a P345? Just a suggestion.

I have three (P89,90,345) with the same controls for the simple reason that no matter which I'm carrying the muscle memory is the same. Also I only have to teach my wife one system for bottom feeders.

Of course now that she's found my snubby I don't think I'll be leaving the autos as the house guns any more. :(
