I can get a Ruger mini GB for $550. I think the GB, a Law enforcement /gov't model run a little more than the ranch models. What are the GB's going for these days?

Thanks

Sounds OK without knowing more, check Gun Broker there are several there from 5 something to 1500.

If it's NIB or near that shape--not a bad deal. If it's used, meh, only if your heart is set on it.

If the seller has a few factory mags to throw in, or other deal sweeteners (like .223 ammo!), maybe.

I like my mini--but it cost 340.00 new in 1990 at a time when a entry-level AR was almost double that price. Nowadays, for an extra 50 bucks you could get one of those 'no name' century AR-15A2s instead of that mini. The price-point on the mini just isn't a 'bang-for-your-buck' bargain anymore--especially with ammo at 50 cents a squeeze.

Depends on model

If it has the factory flash hider, bayonet lug and factory folding stock it would be a decent price

It's the semi-auto version of the AC-556 and is a government model rifle. Most of these are from State Troopers or from prisons and often they are LEO marked. Mine came from the Mississippi State Troopers. They do indeed have a bayo lug and flash hider, in addition to other features. Some will also have Ruger folding stocks. They almost always come with Ruger 20 round mags.

The GB was never intended for civilian use and as far as I know, Ruger never sold them to the public, but I could be wrong. GB could mean either Government Barrel or Government, Bayonet. It isn't clear which it means.

Tarvis, people who sell them often bastardize the actual Ruger descriptions.

For the collector there are really only two variants that are important...and a whole bunch that should be left behind. But before I get to those, some important background information. For many years, for decades, Ruger held a very stern view of civilian sales of any of their government/military products. Whether it was firearms or accessories, if it was at all mil/gov, they banned their sales and really aggressively went after dealers that sold them to the public...

Only in the last 5-6 years have some cracks come through the wall, having mostly to do with the death of Bill. For instance, it is a well known fact the old man Ruger was not an advocate of U.S. citizens buying high capacity mags from anybody, let alond Ruger. Collectors sought out the high capacity early Mini14 mags with relish.

Now the GB.

The most important variants have three major characteristics. First, they should have the Ruger factory swing stock. Secondly, they must have the Ruger factory barrel band/bayonet rear lug and factory bayo flash hider and thirdly they should be the units packed with the high capacity factory mag.

Know that the GBs came in two major receiver configurations...integral scope mounts and without integral scope mounts. A number of collectors feel that the paramount collectibale GB is....the stainless steel, swing stock, NO integral scope mount, bayonet lug (always in blue steel) and flash hider in the earliest model run that can be had, with the high capacity mag. IF you can find one LE marked...more the better. I personally think the blued model (same configuration) is very collectable. I am not dissing the full stock, they are collectable as well.

AC556 is still a holy grail of US manufactured Class III and it was and is hard to track them down.

Where things turn south quickly for value is...any synthetic stock...anything without the bayonet lug.

I would amend my post slightly--IF it is in a factory wood folder w/ the Bakelite/thermo resin pistol grip in nice shape--the stock alone would make it a fairly good deal. It's *still* going to work like any other mini, but the configuration is highly desired by Ruger collectors.

AFAIK, no one has made a really close 'imitation' of the factory folder--they are sharp. They turn my head when I see them--and yes, the asking price can be around 650-750 from what I've noticed.

not a bad deal considering a new one is 605 at wallmart

u can get one for under 5 up there though just not the gb
