A Sea of M1 Garands

I find the production capabilities of the time, and especially that of the M1, fascinating. I would love to go back in time and tour a Springfield Armory or Mauser factory.

I from the late 1940's probably dunking them in the preservative before placing in barrels/drums to be sealed for storage.

Gentlemen,

How about that many in your gun room. One thing I would like to ask if I may. What are they doing to our M1 Garands ?

Greasing them up to be sent to Greece? :D

No Clue

Clancy,

I've been thinking about this photo for a day or two and am clueless. The guy in the white sleeves looks like he's working on a rear sight. I can't tell for sure, but the guy to his right may have a rifle inclined barrel down. There's not enough detail for the others, except the bubba mid-pictures gasping in awe at his day's quota. :)

So just what are they doing?

John

Yeah,,,,sigh,,,,,
I could have been doing that if only I had been born eighty years ago!

Gentlemen,

Many of you had the answer or were very close. The answer to the photo above shows the following:

These M1 Garand Rifles are being checked and greasing the rifles is done by hand.

Time frame about 1943 ?

Take a look at the next file.
Thanks again
Clancy
ps if you guys keep hitting my sites and I will keep posting data.
