Yesterday we took our daughter's out to a friend N.'s house for sledding. After they got tuckered out, N., our other friend R., and I grabbed our guns to see if we could go shoot a deer. N. and R. had shotguns and I brought my longrifle.

N. saw 4 or so does but couldn't get a shot because one of his neighbor's homes was the backstop. We did a couple drives afterwards but didn't see any more deer.

Once we called it quits I had to unload, so I lined up on a stump, and CLICK. No spark.

I tried again, and CLICK.

%$#!@#$%!!!!!!!!!

I changed the flint and finally, BOOM.

Hunting with a flinter, got to love it.

I ordered 20 Tom Fuller flints from Track of the Wolf this morning.

My rifle: A Dixie Tenn. Mountain Rifle restocked by G. L. Dech into a Pennsylvania rifle.

I'm a southpaw too, but man, I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous!

I find I can shoot 105mm equally well left handed or right handed.

You can learn to shoot either way. I practiced a lot when I was younger and now can still shoot everything from slingshots to shotguns from either shoulder. I am better from the right being right eyed but sometimes game sneaks up on your wrong side and switch shooting is the only answer.

I use knapped flints for looks, but I use sawed agate when I really, really, want it to go off if hunting.

I frequent rock shows and buy on the cheap all the scrap Brazilian agate I can get. I have a diamond saw and jigs made up for sawing different sizes.

The Brazilian agate sure make for good sparkers, but it's a little too purty colored to stand the ribbing at shoots.
