I do like the P series, and I do quite like .40. So when I discovered a previously overlooked (and now discontinued) P224 at my LGS, I snagged it and quickly put 50 rounds through it.
Interestingly, I had a failure to return to battery with both mags (after the second shot from each) upon their first "unloading". Second full loading with each mag had no such problem. I'm thinking the mag springs just need to take a set, so they're currently fully loaded and sitting in the closet.
I didn't do any research before buying this gun. I pretty much assumed that it was a metal framed P series Sig, and so must be okay. I also assumed that they were discontinued because not many people were interested in buying a sub-compact double stack metal framed pistol that feels like a 2X4 so short their pinky is left hanging. But it seems like there may have been some functionality issues besides size, weight and ergonomics.
For the record, I actually really like the pistol. The SA trigger is very nice, and the DA is better than most I've experienced on Sig's. I also like the short reset, which is superior to the SRT on my wife's P239 SAS Gen II. The E2 grip isn't great, but it'll function for CC just fine. Over all, a nice CC gun that would not be my first choice for a fun day at the range.
