A warning regarding Austin TX

Is Texas still one the most restrictive states for carrying in the country? Sure it is shall issue, but dang, huge load of restrictions.

Dell is not anti gun. They have some very well known Gun customers. Dell is a very stressful work environment and there is not need to carry in the work place that’s all. BTW Mike Dell is a very conservative Republican

Dutchman, define "need," please

Bad things happen to good people even in nice places.

Sometimes I am protected by my gun (Okay , I protect myself with my gun) sometimes I protect my gun by having it with me rather than leaving it in my car.

I don't go dangeous places except gas stations, convenience store, and the like.

Some places you obviously don't need to carry defensive weaponry, right? Like in churches, right? A woman was killed in a church in Detroit this past Sunday. She certainly didn't need to carry, did she? A student said the that any clergyman who permited guns in his church was crazy. He was corrrect right? If it was the womans time to go , it was her time to go, right?

What say you now?

Well I am glad I was mistaken. Espically since I bought a new Dell computer a few months ago. All that mental anguish I went through when I gave them my hard earned money was all a waste. I feel better now though.:)

Two things.

One, I know of many, many, many businesses that allow CHL by
employees. I've not been prohibited from carry at work by
any employer since the enactment of CHL in Texas.

Two, why is there the perception there are many restricted places
in Texas? The list where you can't carry are: bars, INSIDE schools,
jails, courts, while voting. That seems like a fairly short list to me. We can
carry in post offices, any govt owned or leased building (that is not a court)
and church.

As to the places that post the prohibited sign, I can name only two
in North Texas: Baylor hospitals and Grapevine Mills mall.

Can't say anything about Dell in Texas, but Dell in Nashville shuts down five time a day so their muzzlemz can prey to the right direction.

If you are non muzzlem, you are prohibited from displaying anything of a religious nature in your workspace. Nothing like diversity in the workplace.

Cowbox always worked for me.

I remember a while back reading some company that set up in Utah was banning employees from being armed in their cars while on company property. Of course a big stink was made.

I think the problem is not enough tech companies that are pro-gun. :) So, here's my call. Someone, make a computer/software/e-services/it company which is pro-gun, and advertise for help to get pro-gun employees.

When the best pro-gun specialists move on to this new company, policies will change.

The Dell campus in Round Rock has a sign on the door you badge into "No firearms on the premesis" I find this amusing considering it's also in braile. It's not a 30.06 sign however.

The place I work at in Texas is also restricted. Lackland AFB. Anyone figger out why the Second Amendment doesn't apply to Federal land?

Y'all think if I pointed out that the sign at the gate isn't a "real" 30.06 sign that I could get away with it?

Yeah, me neither.

You also can NOT carry inside a post office. That's Federal territory! You can carry in the 24 hour lobby of some POs, but the place where the employees work is "protected"

FWIW, Dell offers their EPP (employer preferred program) to all military with almost no paperwork or verification. Scored me an additional 12% off my laptop. Ain't much, but it is nice.

Austin is a great city

Sure, it's got its problems like every city. Too much crime, too many left-over hippies and terrible traffic. But it is still Texas and easily the most beautiful part of Texas. The music scene is incomparable, the climate is perfect, it has one of the best gun stores in the country, McBrides. There's hunting, fishing, shooting, Austin City Limits.....anything you want.

I don't understand why people who don't live there enjoy bashing something they don't understand.

Why ANY woman would be cruising a public park in the middle of the night is beyond comprehension to me,,,,,,
Perhaps she's a member of the oldest profession?
. . . visitors are advised to avoid antagonizing others, especially when driving in vehicles.
People who try to start trouble with strangers who may be armed are fools, so road ragers are fools by definition . . . and I don't care what a fool thinks of me. So on those rare occasions a would-be road rager tries to start something with me, I smile, shrug, and wave, letting him think I'm apologizing for whatever it is he thinks I did. If I have to use lethal force to protect myself I will, but I'm going to be DARNED sure that I don't do anything to escalate the situation to that point.

BTW, not everyone in & around Austin - AKA Moscow on the Colorado - is a pinko left wing moonbat. I live just west of the city, and for a time before they shifted the boundary lines, my Congressional rep was Ron Paul.

You can carry in the Post Office. I challenge any to post the relavent code prohibiting you from doing so?

The Fed laws says you must obey all state laws in the post office.

As for carry on DOD property. Sure, you can't but what does that
have to do with Texas law relative to other state carry laws? No
carry on DOD property is the same in all states. The comments
I keep hearing are about Texas laws relative to other laws. I'd like
to point out one big difference, in my understading at least, is
carry in restaurants. Isn't it true that many state prohibit that?

If you think the climate is perfect then you probably don't suffer from allergies. Come and enjoy cedar fever. You will really like the ice storms as well. Come and enjoy sitting in your vehicle from 0700 to 0900 w/out moving 30 ft. Come and enjoy sitting in your vehicle from 1500 to 1900 w/out moving 30 ft. Come and enjoy property taxes that escalate 15% annually. Come and enjoy the recent california transplants who are rapidly bidding up property prices just like they did at home. But, some of the mexican restaurants do have decent food.

Here in Oregon and Washington we cannot carry into a post office. Post offices are govt. buildings and as such weapons are prohibited. In fact if you go into one of the grocery stores or gas stations that have the postal annex in them you cannot carry unless the postal part has it's own seperate entry. I am not sure if that is a state law or a federal law but it is one they stress very strongly when you take your course and get you permit. :)

The warnings about crime would apply to any city in America. The gun warning is ridiculous. More guns equals less crime. On not antagonizing people, should you do that if guns aren't prevalent? Antagonizing people sounds pretty rude to me.

Carrying in Texas

I live and work in the Greater Austin area and my currenty employer does not have a prohibition on carrying. There is however, a draft employee handbook which will preclude weapons on the premises. No one knows if or when that handbook will ever be published.

I have encountered 1 30.06 sign at a Taco Cabana @ Mopac and Parmer (for those of you familiar with the Austin area). The only other signs I have encountered are those which state the property owner or occupant's postion but which cannot be used to prosecute similar to: In order to protect our employees and provide a safe environemt for our customers we do not allow weapons or firearms and will prosecute violators to the fullest extent allowable under the law. I usually ignore these, since the worst that can happen (that is if somehow someone determines I have a weapon that has not hppened yet) is that I'll be asked to either disarm or leave.

Does anyone else carry in the Post Office?

Well, I live here, so I'll be more than happy to bash it for those who don't. My big complaint about Dell, is that they do not allow you to even have a firearm in your personal vehicle in the parking lot. I don't feel they have the right to say what I can and can't have in my personal vehicle. When I enter their building, yes, but not in my car. In TX, a man's car is his castle, dangit....

The CFR/Federal Code is rather ambigious on this. IT appears from reading the law/reg those lawfully in possession my carry. There is a good peice on this at The Gun Zone. I carry in my PO and keep it concealled. I mad the decision a long time ago that my life was important to me. I don't go where i can't carry besides court houses. If I didn't work as a VA cop I would never darken their doors because of the no guns policy. I don't go to states that do not honor my Alabama Pistol Packing License as my local Sheriff calls it. I simply refuse to give money to places that refuse to recognize my Creator endowed , constitutionally affirmed rights.

what gets me is

visitors are advised to avoid antagonizing others, especially when driving in vehicles

So does that mean if your in NYC where the opressed ones may not carry guns it's ok to antagonize drivers?

TheDutchman are you aware this is a pro gun forum?
what is this "need" you speak of? you can assure me that the thousands of people who dell have in their employ would never act in a dangerous manner?
just because you are not allowed to carry a gun somwhere (like NYC for instance) doesn't mean some criminal will obey the law.
Dell does not "need" to disarm it's employees either.
