A What If That Really Happened

By the time you ducked from the shots and figured out what was going on it would be over.

Anything else is foolishness. You'll never know what's happening until well after it's over.

Realistically this is how things would happen.

GUNFIRE, freeze like deer in headlights, wake up to the presence of the Ghost of Mr. Darwin, seek cover, seek escape, contact 911, beg for help, changer underwear.

No body's shooting back at anyone unless things go on for a very long time and/or someone leaves the vehicle to start shooting people that have taken cover.

You take cover and [expletive deleted]

Let the gangster wannabes thin their own herd...

You should only be engaging is your life (or a direct family member's) is on the line.
The situ changes a bit if the guy is taking random shots at random people [expletive deleted]...
Then it is an issue of a whole different magnitude...

If you are pinned, do what you gotta do...survive
If you are securely concealed and have adequate cover, be the point of contact for LEO dispatch if you can.
If the above plays out and a shot presents itself...well, that is an issue for you to judge at the time.

I'd like to say I'd intervene (if the situ was as I outlined above), but I cannot say what would actually happen.
The OP story happend fast and ended fast.

I'd likely be moving out fast while saying "Feet, don't fail me now"

Don't go to stop-and-robs at 3 a.m.

+1

I work evenings, and have taken to heart the old adage "Nothing good happens after Midnight." I'm always alert, and try not to stop anywhere dicey.

As to the OP, I too would take cover. If its gang related, its not my fight.
