My LGS has a Winchester 9422 for 275.00. Its has some kind of weird aftermarket finish on the metal parts and a ding or two in the stock.

The price is just so low I'm suspicious.
I'm going in at some point next week to pick up the Henry (H012GML) I ordered and if its still available I might walk away with 2 guns instead of one.

So what say ye? Yay or Nay?
Would the weird finish deter you?
What issue(s) would prevent you from purchasing it?

Passed up a nib one back in the late nineties at a local gun show. They wanted $600 for it and I thought that was too much for a .22 when their centerfires in the same gun, were going for a titch over $400. Changed my mind after walking away and went back to get it. Just a few minutes had gone by and it was already gone. One of my biggest regrets concerning guns.

just get it, and if it doesn't grow on you, sell it to someone you know who wants one. how old is it? function check it and go over it, but that finish seems decent enough for a plinker .22 IMHO. I'd probably try to grab it if it were me.

Looks like cerakote and if it was done right with a barrel that has good rifling that is a bargain. For that price it is a steal don't kick yourself in the butt if it functions right do it or you will be saying (man I shoulda woulda coulda.)

If you really don't like it you can always have it refinished for another couple hundred.

It's also possible that it's just rattle can and will come off with any decent solvent.

Why is this even a thread?
For 275 it should be in your safe.
Leave it as is or Gunkote the thing.

Been there, done that.

First thing is, I would have drove over to see that 9422 as soon as I knew the LGS had it.

Second thing is, I'd cycle the action and see if it looks like the innards are workable. And get a feel for the trigger and pull the mag tube as well.

If it seemed like the outside was redone for surface rust reasons, as long as the job was well done (not custom shop, just well done) I'd plunk down my money and love the gun for what it is. I don't think I would even refinish it.
