Got my levergun today. A winchester 9422, made in 1974, well it's new to me! It's got some wear on the bluing at the front of the barrel but nothing that really bothers me, gives it character. The wood is pretty much the same, I might refinish that though. It hits well enough I suppose, I haven't calibrate the scope or tried shooting with any support so I am not sure what kind of accuracy it will give me, but it has minute-of-can accuracy with and without scope anyway. The inner magazine tube is steel as opposed to the brass I hear you find on newer ones.
After shooting a I took it apart because I could see it was kinda dirty and man. Talk about gunk, black gunk, orange gunk, and sand grains it looked like too. Dissambled the gun and sprayed the parts in what we call CRC 5-56, kinda gung dissovlving thing, then I used a compressor and blasted the parts clean. Then I sat I think for two hours with paper and more spaying and rubbing and getting rid of gunk that was really, really stuck, I almost wonder if I am the first to clean it It looked sorta like vaseline or grease? Anyway it looks alot nicer now and I think the action even got smoother when I got rid of all the gunk. I will have to soak the parts in CLP later though. All in all it cost me 420 euros or so (550 dollars maybe?), 250 euros was the starting price, but it was in Sweden and I was in Finland, so plenty of extra paperwork that added up the expenses... But I think it was worth it for a good condition model from 74, before winchester turned into USRAC and started making the gun cheaper.
Oh and the scope, I've never had a scope before so I am a total scope illiterate, it just says Classic 4x32, made in Japan and nothing more, anyone know anything about what kind of scope I got? Anyway all in all this is a seriously awesome rifle anyway, no probs feeding it CCI Standards. This one's a keeper.
Sorry there are no pics, I do not have my camera right now but they will come later, hopefully this weekend, this is a picture from the sellers website:
