Chapter 12
The Mission
Gary Sinclair sat before the General of the Arizona National Guard, awaiting his instructions for the day.The General was a tall man with balding white hair and piercing blue eyes. He wore desert camo of an Iraq War vintage, and had a Colt 1911 strapped in a civie holster around his waist. He stood before several pictures of a large government building, and had a laser pointer in his hands.
"Okay Gentlemen. I called you all here for a very important task. You see, we searched through records in a government storage facility in Scottsdale, and discovered that in this facility here, there should be some kind of research facility for trying to find a cure here in the federal building."
The men looked at each other, mumuring. Before the General began again, "We chose y'all because each of you has seen time in the military, and each of you had security clearances at one time or another."
"Look men, this is an extremely sensitive matter, and we don't want this getting out that there was research on a cure, because we don't know how far that research had gone, or what exactly this facility even had in it. So, here is the plan."
The Bunker
General Isaac Stapleton, and Admiral Giovanni Antonelli had landed the presidential plane, and were about to enter the bunker in West Virginia, although they'd been armed with their weapons from the room, they'd wanted heavier ordnance when they got out of the plane.
Stapleton's wound had finally sealed up with the help of bandages from the emergency medical bay in the back of the plane. But, the pain in his arm was still intense. He'd refused to take any painkillers, because they didn't know the proper dosages for some of the meds, and the emergency morphene injectors were simply too strong. Stapleton wanted his wits about him.
They'd grabbed from the onboard armoury FN P90 submachineguns, and a dozen extra mags for their pistols. In addition to that, Stapleton had choosen an H&K G36 with a Trijicon 3-9x scope atop the weaver rails on the weapon.
Now, both of them were set up to enter the place.
The two men had landed on an airstrip that was nothing more than a long dirt strip. And about 100 yards from the strip was a simple chain linked fence. On the outside of the fence was a card reader. No one knew it, but the fence was electrified. If you gained access to the facility you would be taken underground. If not, the facility would shut down, and a person with a key card would have to reopen the site.
Both men walked up to the card reader, and entered their cards. Each scanned, and the machine read off their name, and the gate automatically opened. The two men walked into the enclosure, and Stapleton said, "Well, so far so good."
They next came to a concrete structure nestled into the woods. The General put his hand on a plastic reader, and his eye up to a small window that had what looked like an ATM camera inside of it. The device said, "Welcome General Isaac Stapleton, Identity confirmed."
Next, Antonelli did the same.
Then, they both entered through a heavy steel blast door.
Entering the subteranian hideout, the pair looked around to see they were in the middle of a room surrounded by zombies.
