How well does aa#5 work for 9mm and 125gr coated bullets my lgs has some aa#7 and aa#5 in stock along with cfe pistol ,
using for paper pouching target ammo ?
I know there are other powders that will work but these are the 3 available to me at this time

I like #7 for 135 gr and up for shorter barreled 9x19, for 124 gr in a short barrel #5 and BE-86 works well for me.

I have only used AA#5 and CFE-P powders. I can't say nothing bad about #5, I just prefer CFE-P, or Silhouette for 9mm JHP target.
I do like AA#5 for some 45 Auto FMJ loads though. :)

Never used AA#5 but it is about the burn speed I like for most 9mm loads.
CFE-P has shot well for me with plated and jacketed, but I haven't used it with coated.

They all work for 9mm.

For #7 you will probably want to load very near (or at) max or you will have unburned powder.

All three powders favor loading full power ammo, not downloaded.

No.5 is the best of all listed if your intention is target practice.

No.7 if you were loading some JHP bullets for self defense loads.
Yep.

#7 was pretty much designed for full-tilt 124gr 9mm. Dense powder and small case. It does a very good job at it too.

#5 is perfectly capable of slightly less than full velocity 9mm. And, it's a ball powder that runs very easily through a measure (as is #7).

Either is a good choice.

Good thing I didn’t know 7 was designed for bigger loads and bigger boolits cause I’ve been using it with 115s and the lightest load since I began loading. (Don’t know the emoji for sarcasm)

AA #7 likes full power loads in 9MM, doesn’t do as well download, similar to how HS 6 behaves. It will burn much cleaner and perform better at max, which is why I always recommend AA # 5 over it for general 9MM loading.

Now, if you want full tilt boogie....... :)

I didn't say that #7 won't work for different loadings, just that it excels at doing it's designed task.

I've seen people use screwdriver handles for hammers. It works, but a hammer is better.

Crescent hammer, sir!
I just worked up a really nice load for Acme 125 RN-NLG with Unique, but that doesn't help at all.
