AARGGHH I did it again!

I was all excited to finally get to sit down and load a few rounds for my new 45-70. I pulled my brand new dies off the shelf only to realize I forgot to pick up a shell holder:banghead:

I would happily pay the extra few bucks if they would just include the shell holder in the die set.

I have done this 3 times now.

I've done that a time or two. It's especially disappointing to realize you forgot the shell holder when your getting ready to spend an evening loading, and every shop is closed until morning.

I am glad you posted this....all I have ever owned are lee dies which come with the shellholder (I have only been reloading 6 month and have 5 sets of dies) I was considering getting a different brand for my next purchase just to see how they compared. I will know now to include a shellholder. Kinda of suprised other companies do not include them

Many cartridges share a shell holder with other cartridges. Example: 223 Remington, 222 Remington, 222 Remington Magnum, 221 Remington Fireball, 17 Remington, 17 Fireball, 204 Ruger, 380 ACP and a bunch I do not remember at the moment.

308 Winchester/30-06 is another case head size covering many cartridges.

While these are extreme cases at one end of the spectrum and there are others where the case heads are unique, some of the manufactures have decided reloaders do not want to spend extra money for duplicate shell holders.

There are at least two schools of thought from reloaders. One, have the minimal number of shell holders and two, have a shell holder with each set of dies.

I prefer to not pay for extra stuff I do not need so I would rather not get shell holders with each set of dies. Besides, when I buy dies for my progressive press, the single stage press shell holder would be just a boat anchor, albeit a light one.

Wow, all my extra shellholders really get in my way and annoy the hell out of me. And all that extra cost just eats me alive. NOT!

That's the main reason I only buy Lee dies, they're ready to use. I don't have to buy the most crucial part separately. That's like buying a car and having to buy the tires separately.

Most of my reloading shopping is done as close as my computer. No need to drive, comfy shopping in my easy chair. Delivered to my door.

I get to find the best deal and know what is in stock for immediate shipment. At least in my parts, gun shops rarely have the reloading equipment that I am looking for and if they do, they are very proud of it.

All my Hornady dies came with the shell holders.

I have dies from amny manufactures but when Lee came out with the sets of shell holders years ago I bought a set of each. Have no idea what the price was at the time but todays price is still less than $15.00.

WOW! Using 25mpg as a avg. thats 6 gals. round trip and at todays prices thats $20.00.
That would pay for some shipping charges right there.

Yellow Legal Pad! I have to make lists; guess that tells everyone how focused I am. If I don't make a list I will typically get distracted by something shinny and walk out of the store with stuff that I really don't need and often forget something that I did need.

at my local store,I see that Lyman's is now including shell holders.It's high time ALL the mfgrs did it,dammit !! i've also wasted gas and time to have to go get what should have already been in the danged box !!

I found one, the last one in town but I got it. I had to go to three different stores to find it.

If I could avoid what I went through tonight I would gladly pay a few extra dollars to have a shell holder in each die set. Besides I am sharing a shell holder between my 308 and 45 and it is a pain. I keep forgetting to buy another shell holder so I can leave a shell holder in each box of dies. I find that to be very convenient for my set up.

Lee makes a nice storage box for shell holders. If you use Lee shell holders it has a chart on the back and numbered locations inside for storage.

I think they sell one loaded with most of the common shell holders for a good price.

But, if a shell holder in each die box makes things work for you, then go for it.
