I'm a young guy and think of myself as being very internet and very forum savvy, but there are so many caps locked 4 and 5 character abbreviations on this forum and I don't know what most of them are.

Maybe we can get an abbreviations sticky where everyone can explain their abbreviations, please?

That would be great, I don't like and feel bad asking every single time!

THANKS!

Perhaps you could mention the abbreviations you're having trouble with?

The only one obviously missing form that list is "TFHC":

the Tin Foil Hat Crowd. ;)

LGS = Local gun shop
TRB = Tap, Rack, Bang = After a jam in a sem-automatic pistol, the act of tapping the magazine into the gun with the palm of your hand to make sure it is fully seated, racking the slide to eject the cartridge, and bang is hopefully the noise you will hear the next time you pull the trigger after completing this procedure.
FTF = Can also mean Failure to fire.

So *** is AHSA?

I think if the same Acronym is used five times in a row, It's time to spell it out at least once.

So *** is AHSA?

http://www.huntersandshooters.org/

Hotly debated organization. They backed Obama because he "clearly demonstrated his commitment to the 2nd Amendment," and they used to have a whole page where they back legislation to make .50 caliber rifles NFA, but they seem to have taken it down.

They are regarded by many in the gun community as a wolf in sheep's clothing for the antis; if you search the threads about them here you can find information about the heads of the organization and make your own decision about them.

It doesn't come up here that often, but there's also...

NIMBY: Not In My Back Yard

Also....

POTUS: President of the United States
SCOTUS: Supreme Court of the United States

I personally think that an acronym should be spelled out the first time it is used in a thread.... thats just my personal opinion (TJMPO).... lol

I think if you used the search function, you could probably find what you need.

I may be an old fud, but...

...Why on earth should we have to do searches, scroll through page-long lists of acronyms, and waste even one brain cell attempting to decipher a post?

Is it really THAT hard to write what you mean to say? Writing SHOULD be about communicating your thoughts clearly - not creating puzzles.

ISIITMH (I'm sure I'm In The Minority Here).

So many of the acronyms are stand-ins for trite cliches anyway. Why would I waste my time?

While I'm at it...how about starting sentences with capital letters, using commas and periods, and hitting the return button occasionally to break it into paragraphs?

You might write a brilliant post, one that would change the hearts and minds of everyone here - but if you don't have the time to make it readable, many of us here aren't going to take the time to attempt to read it.

Communicate!

My favorite: TATDOW - Talk about thread drift, oh well. :neener:

SR :)

Not Fair,

When talking about old war horses (Last century's battle rifles) MN can stand for Mosin-Nagant, which is a cheap, effective, overbuilt, Russian rifle.

Mall Ninjas would most likely know nothing about them

I was thinking the same thing today as IMHO made no sense to me untill now. Ask and you shall receive they say.In this case TAYSR
