ABC news just asked a panel of 4th graders questions about gun control. I was shocked to hear the children say that they didn't think the guns are the problem. One also said that armed guards at the school would make him feel safer. It was a wonderful piece in my opinion. I wish you could have seen the whole thing.

It's true--I saw the piece too. I was shocked by the kids' answers, but their answers were actually pretty good except one girls' response regarding high capacity magazines.

I know I couldn't believe it. If I wasn't stepping out for dinner with the family I would try to find a video of it for you guys. If someone finds it please post it. I think abc let it go through because they also discussed the topic of video games, the kids say that the games aren't the problem, the people are the problem. I think they did it to make it look like the kids were shooting down what was said at the nra press conference. But that all back fired. It was still good though, it helped us more than hurt.

yea the one girl said that the amount of bullets in the guns should be regulated or something to that effect.

If the kids are that smart, how come the adults are so damn dumb ?

The longer this drags on and mainstream Americans are dragged along into stupidity by unchecked emotional manipulation, the more I'm reminded of the words of George Carlin:

Think about how dumb the average person is... then realize, half of them are dumber than that.

Just saw it also. Surprisingly good piece coming from ABC.

Private school I'm thinking? Just going by the uniforms. That could be the difference. More education and common sense, and less propaganda.

It seems that children have better sense and are more resilient than most adults in such matters. :scrutiny:

Great video and I love the answers the kids gave, even though it seemed the reporter was phrasing the question to elicit different answers then he received

And don't forget, she is a very well trained former soldier.

People keep talking about hiring retired law enforcement or former military. I spent 5 years in the Marines and shot expert pistol and rifle multiple times and had time on machine guns too. Want to know what the "highly trained" aspect of it was?

Treat every weapon as if it were loaded.
Don't point a weapon at anything you don't want to shoot.
Keep your finger off the trigger until you intend to fire.
Be aware of your target and what is beyond it.

Any CCW/LTC could do the same job. They just may not be in as good of a physical condition. All the rest is just a matter of how much you practice and if you get any instruction. No need for hired guns at schools. Just allow the teachers with CCW/LTC to carry on campus. Maybe give them a $0.50-1.00/hr raise if they choose to do so.

I've mentioned before... my community school district has multiple armed police officers on each campus during the day. There is no "added" cost associated with this. It's part of the regular police budget. It's simply a matter of how we PRIORITIZE distribution of police manpower. If the local shopping malls are unhappy with the amount of armed security they get, they'll just have to hire their own. Our kids are more important.
To the communities that say the cost of policing all the schools is prohibitive, I ask: why? What do you have to protect that's MORE important? (Unless you live in one of those LITERALLY bankrupt cities that lacks a fully functional police force at all... in which case, my kids and I would be homeschooling and polishing our shotguns... economic collapse of an urban zone and breakdown of law and order could be scary).

Just a guess?

Because they grow up, get educated, and become politicians, news-casters, and brainwashed mothers & fathers?

Mmmmm?
So, first of all, uh, smokin's bad. You shouldn't smoke.
And, uh, alcohol is bad.
And, uh, Guns are BAD!
MKay?

My own 10 YO said that he would feel safer with a police officer on school grounds. No. I didn't coach him.

My kid's school just had a "soft" lockdown today before the 2 week break because of rumors of some kid (in another district) having a hit-list and was planning on acting on it to bring in the "end-of-the-world".
