Are they built any differently? I've been looking at a few different things and they seem to be pretty much identical. Same connecting style. What I mean is that the PRE- ban uppers look like htey'd fit right on the post-ban lowers. Seems like you'd be able to just put the old upper on a new lower or vice versa, push the pins in and be good to go. Or is there some kind of block in them. Like M16 bolt carriers into new colts?

So pretty much what I'm getting at is when this sunsets will you be able to just piece on together from exhisting parts? If you can that alone should keep prices down of the new guns that will be rolling out

The parts are interchangable and yes, after the ban, you can start adding the evil features to your postban AR.

Like M16 bolt carriers into new colts?
There is nothing to prevent using M16 parts in an AR, other than ATF considers it to be a machinegun, even if it doesn't shoot full-auto. Some older lowers have different sized holes used to attach the upper, but you can buy adapter pins to make them work.

Thanks. I've still got some parts in my basement I can't put on anything.:(

But soon:evil:

I don't have any post-ban stuff and the pre-ban is too pricy now.

Depending on the type of parts in your basement the ATF might find that you are in violation of the law.

For instance, if you have M16 parts that may be used to convert an otherwise normal AR to a machine gun then you are in violation of the law even if you never attach the parts to any gun.

If the parts are registered as a full-auto sear or kit then you may be legal.

I don't know all the details in depth. Let me go find a link that explains it better.

Look for this paragraph by HKmp5sd on the first page:

As for spare parts, ATF is very, very picky about that subject. For example, I own an M16A1 and an AR-15. They have decided that by having both, if I were to possess any spare M16 parts, I am in fact in possession of an unregistered machinegun. This is even if the parts are not installed on the AR and even if I don't have all of the parts necessary to convert the AR.

I don't have any M-16 parts. But i've got 1 complete pre-ban upper and one that's missing bolt carrier, grips, and flash supressor. I almost sold but decided to hang on to 'em. It was a passed down kind of thing so I'm going to keep them and hope I can attach them at some decent price. Probably give my younger brother one of them.

I already know I can't attach them to a post ban lower but I'm hoping. Otherwise I'll have to spend money:(
