While walking around the gun show getting some magazines for my 9mm AR ( I had the weapon with me to make sure they would fit) I had a local fellow offer me a trade. My 9mm for a Pre Ban PWA rifle w/20" upper.

If I did the trade I would at least get the value of my weapon back should they let the AW ban expire with no renewal. I'd also have a pre ban weapon for the next six months or so.

Although I don't support the AW ban I imagine a lot of pre ban owers out there are pretty much literally "banking" on the idea a new AW ban will be passed. I personally think there is zero chance of having the AW ban quietly sunset without a some renewal. If we are lucky they will make it effective the date of the new bill, thus making all current ARs pre ban and new manufactured post ban. What I do see happening is just continuing the 94 ban. If they did we would see pre ban gun prices skyrocket.

So....I'm sure I'll do the trade and take a bit of a gamble. At worse I'll break even. A post ban AR for a pre ban.

Anyway..thoughts?

Oh..and a check over at AR15.com. One guy wants $750 for a pre ban Colt lower. That price a couple of years ago was almost unheard of. EA and PWA lowers around $600, so it seems as the prices are falling due to the reluctance of anyone wanting to purchase pre bans. Again...if they renew in 6 months you can bet that same Colt lower will sell for $1500.

Hold out until the final vote on S.1805 is done... if that bill gets through without any AWB renewal attached to it, then the antis lost one of their best chances to pass renewal and lost it in the Senate where they were supposed to have a fighting chance. Also we'll know which way this bill will break in less than 30 hours.

Even if you are still skeptical after that, chances are good that the market on prebans will drop even lower.

It's your rifle and all, but I can't BELIEVE you're considering it!!! :what:

I could be wrong, but I just can't imagine that there won't be at least a couple months inbetween where we could make post-bans into pre-bans again.

Buy a telestock and wait... If the AWB sunsets, install the stock, take a picture, and have the picture notarized :) You can worry about the flash supressor later, if you want. But then, since your bbl is 14.5", and since 9mm doesn't have any flash from a bbl that long, you don't need to change that anyway.

As I've said many times, I do have a pre-ban AR. I bought it in '93. I wouldn't trade it for ANYTHING, and I absolutely love it. Having said that, I am NOT banking on the AWB being renewed. I don't care if the value of my Bushy drops to $500 because it's no longer pre-ban. I'll just get the bbl on this Armalite threaded and attach a Flash supressor, pic, notary, etc.

;)

Unless you're just wanting to get out of the 9mm AR business altogether, THEN I guess it's a good trade.

Go for it. You get a complete pre-ban rifle for the cost of a postban and can then buy a 9mm upper and still have that option.

Red's not doing his rifle Justice HK... It's not just an off-the-shelf RRA 9mm.

It's got a KKF free float tube with custom rail lengths, KKF A3 "Mil-Spec", and a lot of other goodies I can't exactly remember right now. He wouldn't be getting a $1000 pre-ban for the price of a $600 post-ban by any means...

If it wasn't for that, I'd have agreed as well.
