About to buy a Colt 6920, any others to look at?

I NEVER heard of Daniel Defense and am now backing off from the Colt. The Daniel Defense looks like it has unlimited options!!!!!!!!!!! Can I buy from Daniel themselves and get them shipped to my FFL? I highly doubt the gunshop I deal with will inventory Daniel Defense firearms (order it for me). What model Daniel Defense is comparable or BETTER than Colts 6920?

I dont see a 6720 on Colts site..

So glad I just didnt pull the trigger on a buy without this post first.

Daniel Defense is a great rifle but if you want crazy amounts of options check out Bravo Company (BCM).

Here is a link to the uppers
http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/AR15-Upper-Receiver-Groups-s/1.htm.

Then just buy a lower from someone like GandRTactical and you got a complete BCM in just about any configuration you want.

They just sound like a weaken barrel.. If I buy that rifle and that barrel goes ill be so pissed off.

Im using it for multiple purposes. NOT hunting (I have a highly custom 358 Win chambered Ruger GSR for that).. mostly target practice to have fun at the range with but home defense is also an option I took into consideration amongst other things. I dont own any "black rifles" and wish to own only one. I only need 4 more firearms and I dont need to buy anymore. Just upgrade them all. Make that 5 I want to get my fiancee a firearm of her own.

The standard M4 and M16 used by the military has a thin barrel under the handguards. Its only thicker in front of the front sight. Most of the "next gen" rifles use a light weight barrel and they have no barrel related problems.

Okay thanks for the info, when I heard thinner barrel I thought immediately of dependability under extreme conditions but as someone mentioned.. it WOULD cool faster..... im sure they tested it.

For the price that you can get a Colt these days it's hard to beat. It's always going to be a Colt if you go to sell it down the road. For your intended purpose it sounds like a Colt 6920 or 6720 would be just fine. If you want more options the other guys are great choices too. It's a good time to buy an AR.

LOL amx, like I said, I dont have the knowledge or tools to build my own AR to the standards id want.

The "black rifles" arent going anywhere anytime soon. I dont see it happening if anything were getting more aggressive with PRO 2a legislation. Some states are even backing out of Federal laws.

Anyone with any sort of mechanical ability can put together a lower.

There are many specialized options, but for the price point it is at Colt's 6920 is a great rifle. I bought my daughters each one just a year back for about $1050 each. The only downside was that Colt no longer ships them with a carry handle but perfectly usable Magpul backup sights. For fifty bucks apiece I bought some mil-spec carry handles just if desired later on. Having been issued a nearly-new Colt m16a2 in the early 90's that was junk, I inspected the Colts with a VERY critical eye for fit and overall quality---I was impressed to say the least. Nothing feels halfway about the weapon in the least.

Im not going full auto, its illegal. I doubt ill go more then a 40 round mag.. if you cant handle a home invasion with 40 rounds then you dont belong holding a firearm. Plus its plenty to put down range at targets. Id probably only go through 1-200 rounds a trip at the range and practice at 50 yds. When you got criminals running rampant down the street with AKs you have to have something to neutrilize them if they decide to target you. I avoid as much as I can but as we all know trouble sometimes just comes to you. And, where im at isnt the greatest place to be.

Like others, I'd suggest a Colt 6720 as a high quality, low cost "can't go wrong" option (or the 6920 or 6920 Magpul edition). Or, spend a little more on the DD that strikes your fancy. Or, buy a complete lower you like shipped to your FFL and order a complete upper you like from BCM. Any of those options gets you a rifle you like at Colt or better quality w/o assembly.

Edit: You'd be better off with a Colt, Aimpoint Pro, light and sling than a more expensive DD and no $ left over for a quality red dot, light and sling. For home defense I would almost make a quality red dot mandatory due to how effective they are...almost. Light and sling is mandatory, have to ID the target and the light allows you to use the irons, sling keeps control in a struggle or if you have to go hands free.

With normal, everyday use, you'll never, ever know the difference (until you pick up a "regular" weight riflr and realize how much you haven't been needlessly carrying with you. Like Jackal said, unless you plan on single-handedly taking on ISIS or something, a slightly lighter barrel isn't going to "weaken" your rifle in the least

If that's all you're doing, the most basic AR will suffice.

Instead of just asking for brands, pin point actual features you want in a rifle and it's parts, and you will narrow your options down.

Blindly ranging your options from Bushmaster to Daniel Defense, especially with your projected level of use, is not really in your best interest.

But for what it's worth, no CHF Daniel Defense lightweight barrel is going to blow from 200 rounds in a range session, and the handguard you are paying for with any of their rifles is overkill for what you would do. 50 yards requires does not require a free float handguard and sitting at a range does not require the utter strength of their rails.

Paid $879 for my Colt LE6920MP-B six months ago. Don't need to do a darn thing to it except add a sling (maybe) and an optic (possibly):
