In Approximately 1980, I purchased 8 lbs of a powder labeled MR 3100, sold by Accurate Arms Co. of McEwen, Tennessee. The powder came in a plastic milk jug. I have not loaded any of this powder for about 20 years. The powder has been stored in my house in the original container which has been kept in the original shipping box. The powder has always been in a heated or air conditioned room and the powder has never been exposed to sunlight. I have the original loading data sheet which lists a variety of loads from .225 Win through 458 Win. I have researched this powder, using the internet, and apparently this powder was made in Israel and has the performance characteristics of IMR 4831. Has anyone worked up loads with this powder for a .223? The suggested loads for the 225 Win were as follows; 36 gr powder with 45 gr bullet; 35 gr powder with 50 gr bullet, and 34 gr powder with 55 gr bullet. The C.U.P. data for the loads ranged from 44,000-45,000 with F.P.S. ranging from 3550 to 3700. Magnum primers were recommended for all loads. The data also suggested beginning loads starts 10% below all of the listed loads. The load data does not mention types/ brands of bullets, and no mention of cases or primers. I would like recipes for 223 rounds using commercial or L C military brass, using bullets from 55gr to perhaps 70 gr. If possible, I plan to shoot the rounds in either/ both a Sako bolt action rifle or a Ruger mini 14 ranch rifle. I would appreciate any input or advice from fellow readers of this site.

I think 3100 will be too slow burning for the 223. I have found AA 2015 and AA 2230 work well for the 223.

Welcome to THR, smlake.

As noted, it is a pretty slow burning powder and would be unsuitable for a case like the 223.
Chances are it would be super in a 270 Win or 25-06 though.

Welcome aboard, lake.

That is an excellent powder for 7mm Rem Magnum through 300 Win Mag. I think Lyman lists it for several accuracy loads. Like all good magnum powders, it is very slow burning. One suspects that you might use it for 223 Rem if you find data, but it won't ever be the best choice. 225 Win loads are definitely heavier than 223 Rem, I certainly wouldn't try to interpolate data.

If you live in my town, I'll trade you some good 223 powder so we both get a deal. Where do you live? Or maybe you have a friend near you who wants good magnum powder.

It must be a pretty good powder because it is usually sold out on any online powder sources. Should be an excellent powder for .25-06 or .270 like posted above.

They had a recall on a certain lot number of 3100 and have not produced any for a long time. I want to try it on a 30.06 load, but have not been able to find any. I emailed AA and asked them if they plan to produce it in the future. They said it should be available in 4 months or so.
