Ok so I've been debating on what optic I should put on my Bushmaster M4 with an A2 fixed carry handle. I had pretty much settled on an EOTech mounted on the foregrip, but I keep coming back to thinking about an ACOG. Do you guys think that an ACOG on a 16" barreled rifle is a waste and should be saved for a longer barrel rifle? Also I just like the way the ACOG looks sittin up there on the carry handle.

Any opinions welcome.

be advised, the sight graduations will be off.

the TA-01NSN is calibrated for a 14.5 inch barrelled AR with a flattop with m855.

the TA-01 is calibrated for a 20 inch AR while on the carrying handle with 55 grain ammo.

Well it will primarily be used for short to medium range shooting, plinking, possibly home defense. Being that there is no where around here to shoot farther than 100 yards that kind of limits me. I guess that sorta just answered my own question there. Probably better off going with a holo/reflex type sight, especially since the ACOG won't be calibrated right.

The difference in BDC calibration will likely be academic to 300 yards. I shoot a TA11 which is calibrated for M193 from a 20", but I shoot 75gr much slower from an 18" and 20" and it's only off like 5" at 400 yards-- so I hold the 400meter line at the top of the 10" plate to hit it.

For what you'd be using it for, save your other $700 and get the Aimpoint. Or, a Compact ACOG (1.5X) which is more suited for close range but works similarly. High Chicks Dig It factor too.

As Zak said the calibration difference makes no real impact on shots under 300m.

Having said that, at under 50yds an ACOG will be less competitive than an Aimpoint or EOtech in speed. If the maximum range you plan to use it will be 100yds, then the Aimpoint or EOtech will serve you well at about half the cost.

I run a TA11 ACOG on a 16" HBAR and I've used it at everything from contact distance to 500yds. It is a nice sight and very capable. It has its limitations like any sight; but I'm very fond of mine.
