Anyone had a cylinder fitted to their SAA, Clone or Colt? Have a 3rd gen that shoots great, but would like to make it a bit more versatile with a .45 ACP cylinder. Looks like Colt charges $268 if I'm looking at the custom shop prices correctly. Would an Italian cylinder work okay with little fitting?

Ubertis are copies of 1st or 2nd generation Colts, 3rd Generation Colts are different. I think you have to change the hand and maybe more to use a 2nd generation cylinder but don't know for sure.

Pretty sure a Uberti cylinder won't work, at least not as a convertible. Just get the Colt cylinder, I'm sure that's parts and labor, though shipping will be extra and not insignificant.

WELL SHUCKS, MAKES ME SO HAPPY TO HAVE MINE , A 3rdGEN SAA 45/45.

Musta been about ten years ago now that I walked into the gunstore in RCSD to find a brand new COLT SAA 45ACP/45COLT awaiting my adaption for a paltry $1050.00. It was the first time I ever paid over four figures for a new firearm !!! It is a genuine COLT SAA 45ACP with a spare fitted 45COLT cylinder, NOT the other way around.
The sights hit a tiny bit low with 45ACP 230 gr ammunition and a tiny bit high with 45COLT 250gr ammunition. I have never had the sights touched and it shoots up a storm with either caliber. I can knock the stew outta the 50 meter field pistol pigs with it. It is such a DELIGHT to shootup scads of 45ACP ammunition and not have to chase a single case down the rattlesnake hole as to ALMOST begger comparison. As a matter of fact I cannot remember the last time I shot any of my 1911 45 pistols !!!
This COLT SAA 45/45 is also the only 45/45 convertible I have [ two Rugers, a Cimarron, a Hartford, three S&W's...] that has fired MANY more 45ACP cartridges than 45COLT cartridges. It is simply wonderful beyond words !!
It is one of the guns that never EVER leaves my gunbox and goes with me every where I go. You DO NOT reach that exalted staus without delivering the goods everytime everywhere.

Well Terry, about fifteen years ago I worked in a gun shop that had a lovely little nickeled Colt Sheriff's model with ejector that was also a .45 convertible. Kinda like Jim Taylor's little custom Old Model Ruger now that I think of it. I lusted after that thing every day I went to work and it haunts me to this day. I imagine that short little booger would be my concealed carry and woods bummin' piece and would be pure joy to sling .45 hardball out of. Still wish I had had the gumption to snag that little gem. Maybe some day.....

Found it, kinda like this sweet lil thang!

I had my 3rd Generation SAA done at the Colt Custom Shop back in 2000. It was around $250 for the work + the new cylinder. They do great work and I have never regretted the upgrade.

Shooting 45LC is a classic, but the cheaper, more available .45 ACP means I can put more rounds down range. Mine also seems to be more accurate with the .45 ACP.

Happy Shooting

FWIW: I have an old model Ruger Vaquero in 45 Colt and was quite interested in having a spare 45 ACP cylinder for it. I watched GB for several weeks until a new 45 ACP cylinder appeared for auction. I won it for around 90-95 dollars. Needed a small bit of fitting and it is now more accurate than my 45 Colt cylinder now. If you want one, go for it!
